Here are this week’s questions:

It’s the second May Bank Holiday here in the UK and the kids are on half term break. In your country, do schools have a ‘Half Term’ break? We have a spring break, one week of no school.

Education methods have changed a lot since I left school in 1972.
Would you like to be learning in a classroom of today?Probably not. I think it would be too distracting.

Did you leave school as soon as you could, or did you go on to study for a degree or other higher education?I left school after graduating 12th grade to pursue a job for the government, civil service.

When you entered the working world, did your job require ‘qualifications’ or did you learn on the job? For this job I had to take a civil service exam.

Gratitude: I spent last week in the hospital because a sickness made me too weak to do anything at home. I was given transfusions, etc and finally went home on Friday, a few days ago. My medicines changed and my kidneys ended up okay, but it was scary for a while. My gratitude is for my daughter taking me to hospital and being by my side. How many times can you think and say you are okay with a DNR. I don’t have that and it’s difficult to put down in writing a living will. I was asked a few times by nurses, and it makes you think you’re worse than you are.😵‍💫

dVerse Poets Haibun Monday

This Memorial Day, let us live the ancient Romans’ “Momemto more” by remembering our beloved dead. Write a haibun in which you offer your remembrance for anyone who has died, whom you love, or with whom you have a connection.

New to haibun? The form consists of one to a few paragraphs of prose—usually written in the present tense—that evoke an experience and are often non-fictional/autobiographical. They may be preceded or followed by one or more haiku—nature-based, using a seasonal image—that complement without directly repeating what the prose stated.

New to dVerse? Here’s what you do:

  • Write a haibun that memorializes a loved one, or one with whom you have a connection, as described above.
  • Post it on your personal site/blog
  • Copy your link onto the Mr. Linky
  • Remember to click the small checkbox about data protection.

Remembering someone close to you that has “passed on” as they say, is very emotional for me. I often grab my phone to call them, as if they were still alive. I realize also, that I could have said more to them, done more with and for them, but it stays a regret.

Marina tapped her phone to see the most flattering photograph of herself. She wanted her most divine image in order to impress her latest romantic vision, Georgio. This meet in person determined he might be “the one”. Unknown to Marina, Georgio was also tryinsg to impress, and sadly their meet was a surprise for both people.

  1. Do you celebrate your birthday or is it just another day? I’m old so pretty much just another day.
  2.  Did you have birthday parties as a child? No.
  3.  Were there any special ‘traditions’ for the birthday person in your household? No.
  4. What was the worst birthday you had? I don’t think I’ve had one.
  5. Gratitude: Speaking of birthdays, I’ve had some really nice ones!

Charlie scuffed the sand to cover a crab walking along the water’s edge. It was early morning and every day he took a walk on the beach to clear his head from the last night’s dreams. Charlie admired the surfers in their wet suits to keep warm in the water while waiting for that next big wave. He had tried it but couldn’t stay up on the board and finally gave up.

Charlie’s life was like that. Try and fail repeating and his dreams reflected those thoughts. That is why he’s here, every morning, determined to try again. He wished he could fly carefree as the gulls did. But his own thoughts betrayed him, thinking, “I have no skills for flight or wings to skim the waves effortlessly, like the wind itself.” Charlie will try again and maybe this time – success.

Pick 3-4

***

It was a little past midnight. She was watching him, the way his body moved, and wondered if an impromptu meeting would cause him to think badly of her. The morning came too quickly and sounds of their short affair were around, echoed in their brief passion. She tried to reach over and touch him again, but he was gone. She will always remember him and their love making.
