MLMM Saturday Mix

***

Sitting on the side of the parade

Watching all the preparations made

Blankets and chairs on the curb were laid

Kids excited drinking lemonade

Platforms of dancers causing mirth

Riders on saddles round horses’ girth

Sometimes you needed to give a wide berth

Even with wind and sun it was worth (it.)

SoCS July 20, 2019

Good morning! We have had real summer weather here in Cheyenne, and Frontier Days is going strong, even with the new rodeo rules causing dissent. I’m not a rodeo fan, I love the animals involved too much to see any calf roping or bull riding. I do admire the guts it takes for the people to ride these animals. The Prompt this week is frame. Here is my contribution:

He put the picture in a frame

Showing his bronco busting fame

The bronc he rode had a name

A chestnut named Flying Flame.

Have a fun weekend, remember to smile!

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS July 20/19

Word of the Day: Universe

Just wondering if there is any place in the universe that I might find a comfortable bra (brassiere).

***

“The term brassiere was used by the Evening Herald in Syracuse, New York, in 1893.[3] It gained wider acceptance in 1904 when the DeBevoise Company used it in their advertising copy—although the word is actually Norman French for a child’s undershirt. In French, it is called a soutien-gorge (literally, “throat-supporter”).[4] It and other early versions resembled a camisolestiffened with boning.[5]“

“Vogue magazine first used the term brassiere in 1907,[6][7] and by 1911 the word had made its way into the Oxford English Dictionary.[8] On 3 November 1914, the newly formed US patent category for “brassieres” was inaugurated with the first patent issued to Mary Phelps Jacob.[9][10] In the 1930s brassiere was gradually shortened to bra.[4]“

“Women have used a variety of garments and devices to cover, restrain, reveal, or modify the appearance of breasts. Bra- or bikini-like garments are depicted in some female athletes of the Minoan civilization in the 14th century BC.”

In 1873 Elizabeth Stuart Phelps advocated that women burn their corsets.

I always thought it must have been designed by a man who never would have the unfortunate pleasure of wearing one, sadly no.

MLMM First Line Friday

They congregated up in the hills, far away from judging eyes. It started out as an ordinary coffee group before work on week days, a way to have a bit of fun before the usual mundane routine. Jack Smith began the group with his best friend Joe Brown and each week the morning get-together drew more friends with similar beliefs.

The coffee shop gathering expanded to a Saturday morning meetup since the group was increasing, more than casual conversation ensued, and different members took turns hosting. It seemed clear to everyone involved that their beliefs were not uncommon any longer but might be perceived as a danger. This was after a visit to one of their homes by the Secret Service.

It was then they decided to meet in a secret destination on Saturdays. They even went so far as to publish a newsletter available only to members. It was titled “The Terrible Trump Times”.

Friday Fictioneers – Awakening

Joe stumbled back as he realized what had just happened. The square was suddenly empty. It was just him and IT! He could hardly believe how it spoke to him. All the answers he questioned for his entire life came flooding in all at once.

After his moment of clarity, the sculpture’s light faded, the square once again filled with bustle and Joe collapsed. A woman rushed to his side but it was too late.

I chose a post from 2017 written for Michael’s Tale Weaver Prompt, Around the house.

Great. Here she comes again, opening my door, setting it down on her chair wheel. Then she wonders why my door is not flat and the bottom rack won’t roll out! Why she does this every day, I cannot imagine. She never uses the rinse and hold, so I have to sit here with three days of dirty dishes in me. The worst is the odors….salsa, beans, asparagus, tuna, yuck!

It starts with a coffee cup and if I’m lucky, she rinses it before setting it on my top rack. If not, I endure the dripping of the remains till she runs out of those cups and let’s me wash them. Most of the plates and silverware are all rinsed well. Oh, and those water bottles! They’re always falling over and it’s really hard to clean them when they’re on their side.

I’ll tell you a secret….something I do to irritate her…..I’m efficient, I’m not perfect! When she opens my door, I just let the top rack slide out. Of course she pushes it back in so she can reach the bottom shelf to put in the utensils and plates. But I just push it back out. Sometimes she gets pretty upset that the top rack won’t stay in and out of her way.

I also have flat buttons on the outside. She has to push them and hold them in hard, or I just light them up, pretending they are in all the way. The best part is if she pushes them, sees them lit, and quickly leaves. I make a few noises so she thinks I’m running, and then quit. Then if she notices, I say if, because her nose is always on the iPad, she’ll come out and restart me.

I have such fun with this. What else can a dishwasher do? It’s boring here in her kitchen!

CCC#36 – The Ride

“Everything looks very bright and polished, Evan. You take such wonderful care of your hobby.” Jane looked around this part of the boat a bit longer and then went out to the deck. The sea air rejuvenating and the linen dress was clinging to her from the sprays of sea mist.

Evan came close to her side, reveling in his expectations of their ride on the waves. Noticing the thin dress revealed Jane’s chill, he put a purposeful arm around her shoulders. “Come, my dear, let us retire to the warmth of my cabin.”

Jane knew this first voyage would be rewarding.
