Who wouldn’t like a Bit -O-Honey when starved for affection, any concoction that Razzles your tongue Good & Plenty would be my choice. Those Big Hunk hugs that last all day, Twix morning light and the Milky Way? Forget their Snickers and Chuckles, let them all muse, the Sweetarts and Whoppers are words they can use. It might be a Starburst Red Hots you feel, but Oh Henry, you did make me reel! Lifesavers may be needed then, a Kit Kat from the lifeguard, Henry gave me a ten! Dots of smiles as Three Musketeers quiet the crowd as they sneer, “You were faking, not drowning at all”, but that tells me they don’t know Henry at all.

“A couple’s choice for a wedding cake topper is usually indicative of their relationship. What makes you choose this boxing ring and two fighters?” The bakery owner wanted to make sure the couple would be satisfied with their choice. “I can change it and modify the boxers if you wish.”

“It’s perfect just as it is! We have known each other since the age of six. But the topper with a boxing ring is where we met later in life as adults. I am a sports reporter and he is a television producer. It fits us very well.”

“I understand.”

“I would have learnt to love black days like bright ones.” Spoken as he lay on his deathbed, Joseph held his hand out to his wife. “My dive into depression has hurt all of you”, gesturing to his children that were present. His oldest son, Michael refused to join them as they said goodbye to their father. Joseph had been sick for a while and they all knew his death would be coming soon. They remembered seeing him at his worst on those black days, but were unable to lift him back into a brighter place. His illness had controlled the family life in hurtful ways. Since scientists revealed depression as an illness, he was forgiven. The physical illness is what is taking him away now.

Here are this week’s questions:

  1.  Do you have any fruit trees in your garden? I live in an apartment complex, no garden.
  2.  If not, do you have any trees at all? Nope.
  3.  Have you ever made your own beer or wine? When I was a child my grandpa made root beer and my mom made grape juice.
  4.  Which is your preference: fruit pie (tart), lemon meringue, key lime pie, other. Lemon meringue always a favorite but plain rhubarb, no strawberries added is my all time best!

Gratitude: I am grateful that two of my granddaughters are camp counselors for children these past weeks. My little great grandson is making me laugh with his funny expressions!

Joe stepped out and declared, “look at that sun! There’s not a cloud in the sky! You simply cannot beat this kind of day!” Joe’s words were to die in a hush as the sky darkened and the mythical god Zeus rose up from the seashore and opened part of the sandy beach. Joe and his family waited dumbfounded to see what would happen next.

“You will be allowed access to this beautiful sand but be careful. I will not be content with any destruction. Suddenly Poseidon appeared next to Zeus.

“I stand by and agree. If you choose to destroy our beaches, you will wish you had not!” With this declaration Poseidon reared up and dove back into the ocean, completely drenching Joe and his family.

“He gets a little frustrated with the way humans are trashing the beaches and sea water, but we both feel the same.” The god disappeared in the surf and Joe wondered if anyone would believe his story, if he told it.

Bad Barbie

Barbie and friends were eating lunch at their table in the school cafeteria when a new girl thought to join them. Barbie said, “This table is for us, and you won’t fit in!”

The girl frowned and said “oh, I didn’t realize this school was segregated. And I don’t care for your tone.”

Barbie offered, “Segregated, what’s that mean?”

“I’m not surprised you don’t know.”

Sitting with myself for too long, I reached for a book I haven’t read and picked out a few phrases. Could they be a muse or an angel come to help me sort my mind? An angel or a witch, either of my personalities could be inspiring. I decided to shake the dust off my wings, and become an angel with ulterior motives…because the devil in me will never be denied.

To be continued…
