Where are the founding fathers when you need them?

I always speak the truth

On that you can rely

Think of my reputation

I would never tell a lie

Free press be quiet please

Who’s that speaking in the back

Your question’s pure rubbish

It’s your manners that you lack

As I said I did no wrong

As he lifts his arm and fist

And by the way, I’m innocent

It says so on this list.

(Holds up new Constititution he wrote)

Fruitful Tea

***

Carefully removing the cup from the nearest shelf in the curio cabinet, Jean smiled at her granddaughter. “Your mother used to have tea parties for her stuffed animals, and I thought we might have a tea party today. Would you like that?”

Little Mary looked curiously at the flowered cup. “You’d let me touch that?”

Jean smiled, remembering how strict Mary’s mother was. “Certainly, it won’t be of any use sitting here, will it?”

With that said, Jean placed two delicate china cups on the table while Mary collected her best friends from her bedroom. Hot water was coming to a boil as Jean glanced at the calendar. She looked back quickly to the kettle, hoping Mary wouldn’t notice it had been one year exactly since she lost her mother.

Twittering Tales 11-12-19

“I have some unsolicited advice” she continued. Mary was talking to a large group of college students, in a political science class. “Speak no evil”, as the class disrupted in laughter and holding their ears and eyes in a monkey meme. “Let’s experiment, pick a sign, fill it in.”

FFF#40

Way back in the sixties, as a young bride, my focus of course was on my husband. Being alone while he trained for a new job, I drew pictures of him, especially his profile which seemed to come more naturally. I wasn’t very good but it felt satisfying to complete them. I might try drawing him again, from memory. This prompt inspired my selection of the accompanying music.

Peaceful Pause

Prosery

The weary soldiers gathered around the fire. Christmas Eve and the fire kept small as bits of golden flames filtered up through the darkness, soothing sadness of family memories. Gloved hands covering the coals gathered gear for the sacred night’s feast. Eating meager rations from a tin, they started sharing anything extra they had left. The older ones lit up cigarettes, hoping the bitter burn of smoke would fill their chest, dispelling memories of similar gatherings from other wars on this night.

Suddenly the night air was interrupted by a familiar melody. It was “Silent Night”, an incredible sound with words in a different language. It seems the cold wind brought a drift of voices expressing feelings similar to their own. The captain of the group stood up saying, “If it’s darkness we’re having, let it be extravagant” and they all joined in singing.
