To Wrap or Not to Wrap . . .

The wrap is all sitting there on the stand.

Various colors glow and shine

Lots of ribbons to curl and entwine

Beautifully tied on each package you are giving.

You feel you’ve scored and feel a blush

Because you have beaten the holiday rush

Children cheer and eyes twinkle as they blow open your work

All that time wasted, but you’d never shirk

A bag stuffed with tissue instead of a wrap

Who would be happy with that?

The Witching Hour (not a holiday story)😳🥴

It’s almost twelve, see the clock?

Time for goblins, and seers to mock

The hour of all scary things

Midnight is when it all begins.

Not a believer I hear you say

Well that’s fine until the day

You go to bed at nine or ten

Try to sleep but can’t and then

It starts.

A creaking, squeaking, maybe a thump

A dragging, a moaning from the trunk.

You know that old one sits in the hall

I’m sure you won’t be bothered at all

It’s probably only the wind

Surely it’s nothing that’s in

That old thing, it couldn’t be

Might get out of bed and take a look see.

Feet are feeling a bit unsteady

Round the corner thinking I’m ready

The trunk stands open and hanging out

Is that a hand? Who are you, I shout!

No answer but it seems to rise

I need to go back to bed, be wise

It’s only a dream I think to myself

As the clock chimes twelve times from the shelf

I run back to bed, hide in my room

Only a nightmare, not a figure of doom.

The clock stops striking the bell

It seems the creature went back to hell.

Tomorrow that trunk is leaving this abode

And the clock–I want one with a digital mode.

Brew and Spew – Comfort and Joy

Inspired by the entry from Susi at iwrite her.com, I have to say thank you! You know who I’m talking about, this is for you. . .special people who gave me comfort and joy when I was not feeling the holiday spirits. I wish you all good health above all and a huge hug🤗. You were here for me.❤️

❄️❄️❄️

Not being or feeling my best

Different it seems from all the rest

Where’s Santa and the reindeer hooves

I can’t hear them on my roof

Feeling not so good spirit wise

But good friends opened my eyes

It’s not about you, you dope

It’s all about love and hope

Forget the typos and grammar correct

Light the lights put the tree erect

Troubles always are there, so forget

Enjoy the season and you’ll have no regrets.

Christine’s Daily Writing Prompt

‘Twas, ’twas? Oh well, it was

The night before Christmas

And all at my daughter’s

With presents to open

And to see all the others

Romance abounds in the frosty air

An engagement announced by a loving pair

This news makes the spirit appear

Sees other troubles all disappear

It’s the heart not the chimney or all the presents

Times like these we need that longed for essence

Tuesday Writing Prompt

🎄🎄🎄

I lose it for a while, now and then,

That elusive spirit

The joy of the heart of Christmas

So many different ways to interpret those words

In my own heart it’s family, past and present

No Marley ghosts creep in, but there are ever present spirits

They leave as the new year begins, hoping we will move forward and begin anew.

Christine’s Daily Writing Prompt

“Mind the gauge, we don’t want to take that steep hill too fast.” The conductor winked at the boy, “don’t worry son, well make it!” The conductor always let his son accompany him on Christmas Eve. Every year since he was two years old, the boy could not wait to take the Polar Express with his dad.

“Watch for the curves, soon we’ll be at the lake, what an adventure that was last year, remember?” Suddenly the boy looked nervous, remembering the wild ride on the ice. “It will be fine. We have Santa’s magic to guide us. Now get yourself some hot chocolate and stop worrying.”

The boy entered the passenger compartment to hear everyone sing, “hot, hot hot” and some were dancing! He smiled and knew everything was going to be fine.
