MLMM Sunday Writing Prompt 3-8-20

Everyone loves a sweet dream

Forget the nightmares, please

Soft memories unfold

Not real is how they’re told

Accept the version they display

Reality will always come your way

Take the night

Spend delight

Morning comes so quickly dear

And all the dreams will disappear.

A Nest’s Predicament

Dr. Seuss said it best:

“East or west, my nest is best”

A place to eat and sleep and rest

Should be nothing to contest

Upper, lower bunk, I say

In close encounters are the way

New airline seats are being made

After all the problems made

By shabby small enclosure seats

Where no one can relax or read

Without a person sitting behind

Trying to drive you out of your mind.

Kicking feet of children I understand

But adults punching seats is a new brand

Of thoughtless insidious behavior

Maybe a bunk would be the savior?

Probably I won’t fly in the future

But passengers should be nurtured

Tickets cost an alarming rate

To end up with an uncomfortable fate.

Sunday Photo Fiction

***

“It’s a dragon” yelled the six year old.

“Nah, it’s a snake!” The brothers continued to argue in front of the New Artists’ Review display outside of the stately city art museum. Their parents thought they should expand their children’s minds and frequented new and unusual art exhibits, encouraging them to express their opinions.

The oldest son, tired of these so-called intelligence booster outings and harangue of banter, just wanted to meet his friends at the cafe. “It’s a piece of junk, that’s all! Why does everyone think trash is art?”

Counting Blessings

Ethel, the younger of two widowed sisters who have been roommates since their husbands’ demise twenty years ago, and having had enough loneliness in their lives already as wives, ordered her elder not to panic. They had been watching the television and saw the view of old people lined up in drug stores to buy masks for a new virus.

Martha complained that their surroundings were dusty and needed an old fashioned spring cleaning so as not to be susceptible to any germs that might facilitate the dreaded disease. Ethel decided to start by lifting the furniture and ripping up the ancient carpet, revealing a smooth wooden floor underneath. She then handed Martha a bucket of soap, water and bleach, and the two ladies took to scrubbing.

Suddenly aware of how rejuvenating this new activity made her feel, Martha started to sing an old hymn from childhood while she worked, “Count Your Blessings”.

Song Lyric Sunday

***

There are many artists and songs I love from my childhood on, about the West. It is an entirely different experience for anyone wanting to visit and it must be my father’s roots coming through, and my sisters have a longing to live there. I am the lucky one who actually does! My father was a rancher, horse breaker, sheep herder and more in his young days in Wyoming, Montana, and South Dakota. Cowboy songs were sung as he played the banjo, fiddle or piano, not country, but cowboy songs. My choice is a favorite sung by Marty Robbins with his unique voice, “El Paso”.

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt Refaire

(Egads, I thought the Prompt was 63 words—why, where and how I have no idea! My only excuse could possibly be my 17 year old grandson and I were watching the third installment of the Hobbit movies, which I always get confused with the Lord of the Rings. Basically, I’m easily confused. ..)

Original:

It doesn’t take much to perplex this dude

His main defense is always rude

His brain functions on attitude

The truth is he’s absolutely crude.

It doesn’t matter what anyone thinks

He has the brain of Jar Jar Binks

He doesn’t think on anything much

That’s why he’s always out of touch

Never question him, he’ll double clutch

That really sums him up.

***

My continuation for my 63-90 (poem):

Well it seems I’ve made another error

Reading a blogger made me awarer

That I was mistaken writing only sixty-three words

Perplexed myself, now I feel absurd.

***

Now it is the required 90 words🧐🙄. My apologies, Sammi!
