MLMM Saturday Mix

Let’s just say

You don’t live in a cave

You want to be brave

Do more than just wave

To your neighbors and friends

But to what ends?

The only way to stay safe and save

From contacting germs some others gave

Is to stay home, wear a mask and realize how grave

The consequences really are.

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt – Unwelcome Mat

Dispose of their lollies

Don’t park your wet brollie

Don’t you know how to wipe your feet?

I’m only trying to keep my home neat.

I worked hard all of my life

To provide for myself and my wife

I built this home with our own money

I’m not trying to be rude, but honey—

Daughter mine who grew up with rules

You, your children can’t just do as you choose

It’s also a no-no to puppies, and kitties or fish

Please come in but you can’t do as you wish!

SoCS 6-27-20 – PC?

The prompt this week is coffee, tea, or me. I wrote a post ages ago using this phrase which is old, dated, probably looked at as sexist these days, but it was meant as a joke, by me. Most of the 60s jokes, comedy routines, etc are no longer considered funny. Henny Youngman’s ” take my wife, please”, for example–I’ve used references to these old jokes in my posts but maybe I have offended someone by doing so. We had Bill Cosby albums and our family in the 70s laughed out loud at them, and used some tag lines from them. No one has ever said they were offended. We never thought to look at the horrible person who was telling those jokes. It was entertainment about family life. The cleanest comedian I always find funny is Sinbad, but he probably is curbing his routines in light of recent events.

Comedians like Rodney Dangerfield probably wouldn’t survive today. I still look at some of his work and think it’s hilarious. George Carlin offended everyone and anyone, seen as radical, but he would be popular today. Seinfeld’s “not that there’s anything wrong with that” is used in our family still and we apply it in all types of ways.

I watched Chris Rock’s “bad apples” routine which was done in 2017 after a horrible event, and it is now resurrected. I love comedy but when should it be no longer just sarcasm and who, if anyone, does it hurt? Old protest songs are making a comeback and it seems like anything you write or say can be turned or twisted to be offensive. Many times I write something, pick an old song video, etc, and think, is this going to bother someone? Well you can tell me if it does, I’ll listen, but you can always delete, like this post for example😉.

Reblog of post about Bladder Cancer

I had my five year cancer test this week and this is a post I wrote in 2016 after a year of having a urostomy, explaining my experience. I hope being open with this experience helps someone.

Be Like the Boy Scouts, Prepared

An important thing to remember is, the Boy Scout motto: Be
Prepared..When you are first trying the appliance (bag) you might have a leak. It usually depends on how much liquid you are taking in, but it.might be the fault of the appliance. In any case, each time you leave your home, you should have the following items pre-packed and ready to
go.

Two new bags/appliances

Any adhesive items you use to attach it

A paper diagram and pen to show how to cut the hole, it takes practice

Small scissors to cut the appliance the desired width,

I suggest the medical type with rounded points

Two washcloths

One hand towel

Wipes, the non-alcohol type

Sanitary hand wipes, not for use on ostomy skin

Two pairs of underwear

One pair of pants, I carry a black pair because it will match anything

A pair of socks just in case the leak gets out of control

The grey ostomy disposal bag you receive with the bags for the used one

Ziplock bags to carry the wet items home

Sounds like a lot, doesn’t it? I have used everything on the list
when first starting out. If you read my initial post, you know why. It
was Leak City for a while. Everything fits in a backpack or large purse or bag, messenger bag, briefcase, etc. I’m writing this for men and women. This bag will save you embarrassment in a day of sight-seeing, shopping, or work. I’ve been there. It may be that you are perfectly fitted the first time and never have a leak. Great! But it only takes once to make you wish you took a pre-packed bag. I recommend two appliances because until you get used to trimming the hole covering the ostomy, you may accidentally cut the appliance. You cannot mend it with tape. It’s no longer useful, just dispose of it. You can always precut the bags at home and pack them. That’s easier than trying to wrestle around with stuff in your lap in a small restroom booth.

Now that it’s been a year, my ostomy is the size it’s always going to be, so I don’t carry scissors, I use the pre-sized, already cut type. I don’t use any adhesive cream, lotion, spray or powder, so that lessens the bag bulk. I do carry two appliances, washcloths, and non-alcohol wipes, underwear, and a pair of pants. I’d rather be safe than sorry. Restrooms aren’t always ideal so I carry my own washcloths, etc.

I have my routine down, and a trip to a restaurant, shopping center, whatever, is much more enjoyable. You may not need any of this information. But if you do, I hope it’s useful.

What Day is it Anyway?

Friday–but a Monday Peeve day. Reading news on my iPad or android phone and is getting to the point where I can barely read it at all. Any news report is suddenly covered by an ad asking you to give your personal info and pay for reading.

Oh for the days when a daily newspaper was delivered to your front door! Yes, you paid for it, tipped the deliverer and everyone was happy, the possible exception being parents of the deliverer.

I like different news outlets, I don’t want to add app after app or pay for each one just to read them! Reading a variety is helpful but who can stand having multiple apps for different views on the same events? They tease you with a headline or short intro and then cover it so you can’t read it. Irritating!

“Oh, baby, you are looking beautiful in that cotton dress!” This was the usual start of her grandfather’s conversation. The family would meet at the smorgasbord bar on Sundays to have brunch and fill each other in on the rhythms of their week.

#WATWB: Coming Together

I’m certain everyone has seen the images on TV and social media and knows of the protests since the shooting of George Floyd by a police officer in Minneapolis on May 25, 2020. Needless to say, there is a call for transformation within police departments across the country and the equal treatment of the black community in America – not just by police, but by all citizens.

In clicking on THIS LINK, you’ll read four stories of communities and people coming together against racism from ET Online. Out of the darkness of racism comes the positive light of adults and children willing to help change other’s hearts and minds in the acceptance of human beings whose only difference is skin color.

MLMM – It’s All in the Title

Delilah Blue and the Faulty Timepiece

“Well I declare it’s just the prettiest thing evah! Just look at it Mama, it sparkles! The flowers are so pretty, I think it’s the prettiest little old watch I’ve ever seen!” As usual, Delilah Blue was exaggerating. It was her way of talking, trying to get everyone’s attention. She was a true Southern belle in every way. Her corsets were unbreathably tight, her bosoms pushed up and delicately rouged, her long dark hair expertly curled and the bright blue eyes always wide open. That is unless she was fluttering her long lashes at her beau of the day.

The timepiece was a delicate vision of loveliness, but its worth was only in its beauty as an adornment. Her current suitor found it in a shop of questionable repute. However, it did sparkle, and the blue flowers did match Delilah’s eyes. Those eyes were one of the reasons he was enamored of Delilah. He seemed to fall into those blue eyes as if they were a beautiful warm lake. That was the best of her beauty, he thought, as he laid down his money for the watch.

Delilah loved the young men’s attention and selfishly thought that encouraging competitiveness among them would be to her benefit. And of course it was. Gifts were given at every visit, from a small bunch of violets to an elaborate hair comb. The gifts had to be rather general in those days, nothing too personal or it was considered an insult to her integrity.

The shopkeeper offered to set the watch to the correct time of day and the young man watched as he wrapped it carefully. After he presented it to Delilah, they were allowed a walk in the evening air. Her home’s gardens were quite large and offered a small bit of privacy. The young man took advantage of that and offered his arm to Delilah. She let him and they strolled around the flowers and trees till the sun set.

The next day Delilah selected the timepiece to wear with her deeply cut blue gown that matched her eyes perfectly. After the evening she spent, she was more interested in her suitor than she first thought. She wanted to entice him further, so dressed to please him, as his longing stares into her eyes were not missed. They were to meet for tea in town at four.

The driver helped her out of the carriage and went down the street to wait. Delilah entered the tea room and waited patiently. After a half hour he still did not arrive. She asked a boy outside to fetch her driver.

The young man arrived two hours later which he had planned with Delilah the evening before. He waited for an hour, but she never came. He was heartbroken. Perhaps he was too forward the night before. He did kiss her slightly on the cheek, but surely she wouldn’t have agreed to meet him if she wasn’t pleased.

Delilah huffed into her home, rudely shutting her bedroom door. She took the timepiece off and threw it down. She was embarrassed to sit alone in the tea room waiting. She was angry to think she let him kiss her and then be abandoned? She was mortified.

After a while, Delilah’s mother came in to see what was wrong. After explaining, her mother picked up the watch, looked at it and smiled. Your timepiece is incorrect, my dear. It is set two hours early. You were too early for your meeting. I’m sure he was there at four, not two, when you arrived.

There was a knock on the door. The young man had come to see if Delilah was all right. He wanted to know if she would still see him, even after she missed the meeting. Delilah put on her best charming self and greeted him with a smile. “I’m so sorry, it was all a mistake. The timepiece was set to the wrong time…….”
