Sweltering California and here?

In the days before online stream viewing, we were “happy” to sit in front of a small box in our living room watching a snowy test pattern.

How times have changed🙃😁

The feeling held by most
We must be in a fog
We can’t see clearly
What’s up ahead
Or is it clear vision that we dread?
Bungled up in lies and deceit
No wonder it’s not a clear street
Who to trust, who to believe
In all the conglomeration we receive
Whether by phone, computer, text, or read
Looking for a truth we need
Impossible to find these days
With all of the fogged in, clouded ways.

Eavesdropping? Why, I never!
Listening in? I’m not that clever!
Your conversations that secret be
Are not of the least importance to me.
Why would you think I would be interested
To listen in on words you’ve digested?
Perhaps if you uttered something wise.

There was no lull in his addiction. Ever since John came of age, he was not able to pinpoint when the ravel of his psyche began. Possibly his vituperative parents, never holding him, giving him that honey pleasure so many other children enjoyed. In his earliest years, if he acted in a playful manner, he was sent to his room with never a clue to what caused their anger.
Now, keeping his distance and only sporting a false swagger when at his job, caused him to carve out his own world. Only in the dark, alone, would he sneak beside happy homes, peering into windows, wishing that could have been his life. He kept this up until one night his sobs attracted a friendly dog. The dog failed to bark, probably realizing the distress John was in. The dog followed him home, even after being pushed away a few times. John is lonely no more and his nightly wandering stopped.

“The Song of Names” starring Tim Roth and Clive Owen starts out with the relationship of two boys. It is a very moving drama adapted from the book by Norman Lebrecht. The violin music is amazing and will tug at your heartstrings I am sure.

Unable to sleep last night I encountered Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. I was watching “Luther” when a song at the end of an episode impressed me. It was this band and the song was “Palaces of Montezuma”. Subsequently, I listened to quite a few of their songs and the most emotional to me was the one below, “Into my Arms”. I wanted to share this one:

I had the oddest feeling of fear as I entered the courtroom. He was guilty, there was evidence, plenty of it, so why was I so apprehensive? My lawyer told me it was a no-brainer, a slam dunk, or some other ridiculous phrase that seemed to belittle my case. I am sure it seemed trivial to him, but he was a man and don’t all men have that mentality? That stick together against women group where we as women are a subspecies to be used?
As I sat down beside my attorney, his overpowering aftershave wafting around the new suit my fee probably paid for, I noticed the air of confidence and fake smile flashed to the ladies in the jury box. Maybe that is what it will take to convict my attacker. I tried to relax, sitting back in my chair, only to stiffen as the perpetrator was brought in. Handcuffs taken off, his stare at me as if a warning, made me suddenly shiver. I looked away, trying to control my nerves. He was guilty, there was undeniable evidence; but still, as I glanced around seeing only men in authority and too few women in the jury, I was once again chilled.

My own fault, naturally, it seems to be my failure, as I have the ability to see only the delight in a handsome crinkly jawed smile, flashing eyes, and then am completely hooked. As the man was suddenly joined by his companion, did I notice the intended flex of her arm as she wrestled it away, or the crappy way he gave her a sideways (warning) glance? As she moved back with her arms in a defiant fold, and he uttered a scoff, did I still see his winning smile? No. I turned away, realizing their actions betrayed any harmony and I feel lucky.
