MLMM First Line Friday

It is First Line Friday, welcome and let’s get writing.

Below, I give you the first line, and you all get to write the rest. This prompt alternates with Jim’s Music Prompts, so make sure to check back next Friday for some musical inspiration.

I’ll provide the first line, you get to write whatever comes afterward. Length, genre, and structure are completely up to you. Feel free to modify the line as you see fit, adding punctuation, quotes, or other bits if so desired. No need to tie it to the picture, unless you want to.

Or for more of a challenge, change nothing. You have a week to write it, enjoy!

“Only the elders remembered a blue sky. When they were young, most people thought the idea of climate change was a conspiracy by certain groups of scientists with a secret agenda. What this could possibly have been is still a mystery. Years of selfish neglect and taking our world for granted has resulted in this predicament. Now you children suffer the consequences of their foolishness.”

3TC – Military Mess

***

“Yep Jonesy, it’s worrisome, alright. There was bountiful secret info in that notebook. Its loss will certainly cause a solid turd of turmoil in the old general’s gut when he realizes it was his fault. Does it seem to you he’s getting more forgetful these days? Well, whatever. We can’t tell the cadre about this, it will blow the whole project sky high!”

“Whatever you say, Sarge, I’m just glad it didn’t happen on my watch.”

Fandango’s Friday Flashback

Share Your World – 11-6-17

According to ceenphotography.com, it is Monday again. I’ve been so busy in a good way, the past few days, even months seem to fly by. I spent most of the last three days with my daughter and granddaughters which was delightful. We perused all the Christmas aisles, bought one (college senior) a tree for her house, enjoyed her sister’s (college sophomore) Rice Krispie treats topped with chocolate, played 20 questions, hangman, etc in the car rides, and laughed a lot. I definitely recommend this type of activity!💗😂💗🎄💗 My answers to Cee’s questions this week are:

1. I prefer a two week vacation in a cabin in the woods, snow, cozy fireplace, comfort food and a great companion. I would never take a cruise. I don’t like being in or on water above my head. I have a fear of large objects such as floating with or without a lifeboat looking up at a big ship. Just thinking of being (even safe) beside something that big gives me the willies.

2. I’ve written before of my love of swinging. I don’t remember having toys really, but the swing from our huge tree in the yard was a wonderful thing. I loved the swings at a carnival and a porch swing, if I had a porch, would be heavenly. The feeling of flying, being free, is spectacular.

3. This is a tough one because I’ve learned a lot in my life and still am learning. But thinking introspectively, I think it is being able to forgive myself. And I’m still learning how to do that.

Inspiration this week is my grandson, the buddy, chauffeur, helpmate, always there when I need him guy. He fought a battle and won.

MLMM Wordle – The Visit

***
***

The dromedary plodded on, slowly across the landscape. It was avarice that created him, with my love of the desert and an incendiary memory of the sheik. With this holographic device I can expand or collapse my vision. To experience what before, I could only envision on a plastic screen.

I am able to trespass secretly, pluck my favorite memories of him or glue us together without traveling a single step. I see the scarlet veils I wore and the rare flowers he presented me on our first night together.

Now if you want to come along for the ride, so to speak, I advise you to buckle up.

FOWC: knot

This is a Celtic knot. “The meaning of this Celtic Knot is that with no beginning and no end, it represents unity and eternal spiritual life. The symbols line interweaves through the circle in an unbroken flow.” I think we need these today. Here is one of my favorites.

“According to most historians, interlaced knot patterns first started making appearances around the 3rd and 4th centuries C.E. and can be found in many cultures around the world—they are not proprietary to the Celtic knots are believed to symbolize the interconnectedness of life and eternity, though specific types of patterns and knots do have unique meanings in addition to that.”

Tuesday Writing Prompt- Fall

***
Autumn coloring in leaves is my favorite thing about fall and there is so much more. Growing up on a farm there was always the promise of harvesting vegetables from our huge garden. Baked squash, corn, soups, are all still loved today. A special treat was the grape juice my mom made from the Concord grape vines. I can only have the pleasure of this grape once a year here in the west, and if I find them in time. I remember once the juice in bottles stored in the cellar turned acidy and popped their tops—what a mess!

dVerse Poets Quadrille – Let’s Go!

The word for today’s Quadrille is “careen”. Remember, you must use the word itself, or a form of the word, not a synonym for the word. And the word must appear in the body of your poem of exactly 44 words, sans title.

Adventurous trips, exciting vacations

Every mountain pass we won’t be slowed

We’ll jump in a Jeep and careen down the road

In freezing water’s rushing streams

River rafting is a thing of dreams
Traveling across this beautiful nation

We want to experience these sensations.

The Sunday Whirl

Liz twisted the scarlet stoned ring around her finger in an act of nervousness. She was sure that when dusk arrived, her fright would manifest, and she was trying to keep her mind occupied. As soon as the ghoulish figure appeared, every candle’s light started flickering, although the air was still and the stink of the damp floor held steady. Slowly the ghoul approached, holding a bat in front of her face. Was this some kind of trick? Was it going to bite Liz? It seemed forever the ghoul stood there, staring at her, as if waiting for some midnight chime on a dilapidated bell tower to spur an action. It pushed the bat closer and the bat started to protest, trying to get free. What did the ghoul expect? Was this a trial of wills?

Liz started to smile, a slow evil grin. The ghoul quickly stepped back as Liz’s mouth spread wide and grabbed the squealing bat.
