Fandango’s Flash Fiction

Finally, she thought, peace and quiet, so I can study. The exam is in two days and my dorm is too noisy to get any reading in. Then Murphy’s Law came calling in the form of a Boy Scout troop and overly friendly leader. “Hey, look who’s here! Hey Julie, mind if we join you for lunch?”

Six Sentence Story

***

“No surprise, he was just an oddball,” was the rumor going around campus. “That’s why he did it, thought he was better than us—he’d never make it in the real world.” This was the decided explanation for why Joe Smith, early childhood diagnosis with a stroke of genius, took a fatal ride into the sea on a bleak Sunday evening. Joe thought he had no choice; he never fit in, no matter how hard he tried; he didn’t make friends and felt uneasy in groups. Joe was different in many ways and no one around him took time to know him or tried to make it easier for him. It was simpler to shun him with ridicule and remain in the popular crowd.

The Sunday Whirl

I could never feign the thirst of stories of my past, never be apart from them. You would think I would run out of breath to share them, that first roots would eventually be forgotten or discarded, and roads leading to the future prevail. I could try to deny those thoughts as easily as I could reach into the sky’s chain of stars and pluck one for my own.

The nearest thing to me right now that could qualify as a picture is this clipboard of scratched out prompt words🙄😳. Exciting isn’t it?🙄.

It’s 90 degrees here and my son in law and fam are packing up my granddaughter’s Uhaul for a cross country trip beginning tomorrow. She will be starting her three year residency in PA next week. A happy sad occasion since we are very proud, but will miss her.🥰

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt

Growing up in Vermont, the word “vernacular” was probably never spoken in my home, but we made use of the term every day. Vermonters have sayings I love hearing. When I moved to Texas in 1966, I was often looked at curiously in understanding and vice versa😄 Some favorites are:
Ayuh – yes, agree
Uey – U turn
Cremee – a Dairy Queen type dessert cone
Clicker – Remote of any kind
Grinder – Sub/Hoagie sandwich
Jimmies – Sprinkles on cookies or ice cream
Down Cellar – In the basement

3TC – Trial

Joe is patiently waiting, but ringing the doorbell once again. He loves his friend and even through the gulch that’s creating during the trial, he is standing by her. She seems to take the whole process in stride, even though his own feelings of ennui are apparent to her. He tries to span the gap between the practical “might” be guilty to the hopeful, “it can’t be” part of his mind. There would be no solace for him if she indeed was found negligent.
