Tuesday Writing Prompt Challenge

“Might get well? Might? What the heck are you talking about, doc? She only tripped over the rug!”

Chuck had taken his wife to the ER after she tripped and hit her head on the side of the couch. There was no blood or even a cut, but she said she felt dizzy.

“Chuck, we did an MRI. She has a small tumor on her brain—probably caused the dizziness and her fall. We will operate and hope for a full recovery, but I don’t want you to count your chickens…”

Chuck was so mad about the doc using those words when he had just said they were going to operate and she only “might” recover! What kind of quack was he, anyway? Chuck took his wife home and packed for their trip to the Mayo Clinic where she could be seen by a “real” doctor.

Six Sentence Story – My Life Path

***

I imagined as a child, this would be my path. Of course I always thought I wanted to be married and have six little boys—what a concept, I think now. I did marry, had two boys and a girl, perfect! I thought I had what I wanted, the perfect life, a good family, a nice home, and a husband who was the love of my life—I was nineteen. And it was for a while. Now as I look back through illness and loss and life as it inevitably happens to all of us, to me or around me; I still maintain I am a very privileged person.

The Sunday Whirl

Clip art image

A sideways hollow in the heavy stone cracks open only once a year. The power is seen lit from the inside when the spirits decide it should be observed. The event starts in early morning and by the time the feast is done, an ache of wanton anticipation covers the crowd. The opening begins when the sacred owl appears.
