3TC – Graveyard

Pinterest

The crow sat atop the small tombstone, as usual talking incessantly about the afterlife to the only remaining creatures who could stand to listen, Chunky the squirrel and Chewy, the rabbit. Both must have been desperate for company as they sat there, seemingly mesmerized by Chatty the crow. They didn’t provide any feedback except for the occasional “uh huh”, indicating they were still listening.

The only slight spark came from behind another grave marker, an old gray crumbling one which was actually a ghost incognito. “I see you are philosophizing again, Chatty. Perhaps they’d like to hear from some who’s actually been there.”

Sijo Wednesday – Soar

It’s such a wonderful thing, watching your life as you soar

Seeing you conquer, what you’ve accomplished, and I am amazed

You’ve exceeded my dreams, maybe your own, too, or is there more to come?

Moonwashed Musings Weekly Prompt – Maaahhmm!

Free shipping! she touted
as she begged, even shouted
I need these shoes
pleading
while her mom was reading,
the news.
Quick glance at the shoes
mom said whatever
you choose,
not realizing then
she could never spend
such a huge amount
in their small bank account.
As her daughter kept whining
mom stopped reclining
ventured a look
at the shopping app nook.
Surprised and in awe
couldn’t believe what she saw
gave her daughter looks grim
so she went to him,
her father adored
the daughter scored
so did Jimmy Choo
as her dad bought the shoes.

Todays prompt: Write a poem using the words “depth” and “chemicals”

***

It was only through chemicals that Dr. Jansen thought he could achieve the level of deep investigation he needed. Previously trying LSD and other illegal drugs had barely scratched the surface. He believed that in order to reach the true depth of the meaning of life, he’d need to experiment with the newer cognitive enhancers.

Simply Six Minutes

***

“A vacation, finally!” Julie could hardly believe it, sitting up in bed and stretching her arms. “Wake up, sleepyhead” she said to her husband, who groaned and pulled up the covers. Not a great start, Julie thought, but he’ll warm up to it.

This was going to be a needed time alone, away from the city and the stress. Julie was hoping Sean would enjoy it too, seeing he needed this break the most.

They had arranged a tour of old castles and being the off season, they hoped for some quiet sightseeing, maybe a picnic or other non stressing activity. First on the list was a castle in ruins, a few miles up the coast, and basically isolated. Julie had packed a basket lunch, added wine and a wish for fun.

As soon as they stepped into the structure, it seemed welcoming and she hoped this was a good sign. Then it appeared.

“Last Flag Flying”

I have to say this is a poignant movie that will make you laugh and cry. And for me that makes it more than worth watching. These four actors are perfectly cast. Bryan Cranston, Steve Carrel, Laurence Fishburne and J Quinton Johnson. I hadn’t heard of it before but the important message is one I believe in.

“Thirty years after they served together in Vietnam, a former Navy Corpsman Larry “Doc” Shepherd re-unites with his old buddies, former Marines Sal Nealon and Reverend Richard Mueller, to bury his son, a young Marine killed in the Iraq War.”

Word Craft Poetry

The Shadorma consists of a six-line stanza (or
sestet). Each stanza is written as 3-5-3-3-7-5
for a total of 26 syllables with no set rhyme
scheme. When writing a Shadorma, I would
concentrate on a specific subject. Shadorma
need a title.

Autumn

red splashed leaves

falling onto green

brown curved edge

cracked veins shown

chilled breezes twist and turn them

falling autumn grace

This evening I would like you to write a Prose piece which includes the line: “I’d like, too, to plant the sweet alyssum that smells like honey and peace” from the poem, “What I would like to grow in my Garden.”

***

Feeling nostalgic as I plant one more peony bush in containers on my patio garden. Pink is the chosen color, just like the ones I had in my country garden home over ten years ago. The cut peony blooms so large and fragrant that only one bloom was enough to scent my entire home.

I had other flowers, iris that had been handed down to us from my husband’s grandmother, who maintained a huge variety of iris even in her nineties.

I’d like, too, to plant the sweet alyssum that smells like honey and peace, always delicate and inviting on the edges of a large container. It goes well in contrasting dusty miller as a border.

The patio garden is not ideal and I miss the green grass and pink crab apple tree blossoms as well, but this will do, bringing back scented memories.
