The Sunday Whirl

On the edge of the surface, Joanie felt windswept by emotion. She observed through gauzy curtains a familiar silhouette approach her best friend Julie. A deep sense of dread called up her jealous nature. It started with a few kisses and then his hands were in her tangle of long curly hair. This was no unfamiliar act, it left no room for doubt. They had been lovers behind her back for a while. Her mind threw sketches of her time with him, their love making, but was that all a sham? She drew the knife from the buffet table, determined to slaughter them both. But then she laid it down on the sideboard. They could have each other! Both were not worthy of her love any longer. Joanie left the beach house and drove home.

The Curse

There he was again, Joe could not believe it! He looked in the mirror after dressing for school and there was this old man staring back at him. “Who the hell are you?” Joe yelled at the image.

This wasn’t the first time Joe saw him in there, and it was getting weird. The first time he just thought it was a dream, or a nightmare that he had walked into his bathroom and saw this man in the mirror. He yelled at him again, and the image didn’t move—staring back at him, didn’t move his mouth as Joe was speaking.

Joe tried to think if it was a movie he saw, or if it was a book he read, or even a comic book where this image came from. He couldn’t remember ever seeing it anywhere, except in the mirror. He turned away, and then quickly turned back, and the image was gone.

Little did Joe know that this image was of his real father. His mother and step father never explained to him who his birth father was.

Today was the day. Joe’s mother heard Joe yelling in the bathroom and peeked in, also seeing the image of her first husband. He looked as evil as ever, scary as ever, and she never wanted Joe to know who he was. She decided she had to tell Joe the truth.

She retrieved an old photo album from about 20 years ago and found the picture of her first husband. Of course he looked much younger in the picture, but she knew it was him. She also knew what he was capable of, and now appearing to Joe in the mirror to frighten her son. What type of trickery or curse had he manifested to cause this? Did she really want to know? She decided it was time to visit the Seer. Hopefully she could remove this curse.

SoCS 7-27-24

I am tasked with repairing an older quilt that my granddaughter made for her brother. Unfortunately, it is made with flannel and some linen type fabric and the seams have come apart and the edges are extremely frayed.

I’m going to have to re-stitch the seams with a whipstitch or a hemstitch or a backstitch and hopefully it will stay together. I’m also trying a lock stitch and my old fingers are complaining but it’s a loving task. But I must say trying to make these seams look neat is a real bitch.😂

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS July 27, 2024

One day…

One day I’ll wake up, stroll over to the kitchen, start the coffee maker, look out at my small patio garden and sigh. I am a very lucky person. I have a nice home, food, water, appliances that provide convenience, a few nice neighbors and live five minutes away from my daughter and family. Who could ask for more? I do complain about Trump🙄 and occasionally my wheelchair, but I’m alive and not kicking-well maybe if I really put effort in it, I could 😳🧐, but then you’d have to come over and pick me up. My arms are pretty strong, possibly I could punch someone, but I doubt the secret service would let me get near you know who😂

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt

There’s no denying he’s belligerent
Banking on and using the ignorant
People he prefers to sway
With his deceiving ways
Always vociferous
Acts with indifference
With women or non wasps, he’s less than illiterate.
Supreme Court he duly appointed
He must have thought he “anointed”
Propped up by their rulings now indurate laws
Immunity for his flaws
As if tolerance and support never existed
This is really twisted!

I’ve come too far to step down now
I’ve done everything the rules allow
I won’t turn my back or ever bow
They’ll look at me and see how
My talent is in my fists
I’m ready to join the boxing list
They finally know I exist
I’m letting them know I can do this!
I’m in the ring, announcer speaks
Excitement is at its peak
Audience admires our physiques
Managers go over our techniques
The first round bell is tweaked.
