MLMM Wordle #217

A beautiful day in the forest as John and Mary stopped to have their tea and honey. Their lunch outing might have been displayed as a fresco painting, it was such a lovely setting. The dogwood trees above them formed a dripping canopy of flowers while the sun burst through the branches, making John’s eyes twinkle.

Mary opened the basket while making waggish remarks, trying to pester John as he pretended to get serious. Floundering, John tried to think of the exact words he would use to propose. The picnic, the surroundings, all added to perfect timing to pop the question.

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt #88

A glance, a look, a smile, a brush, a touch, a blush, a flush, a tingle. These are the foundations of attraction. The brain perceives and the body responds automatically.

A stare, a glare, a frown, a scowl, a sidestep, a “cross the street” warning, these are the foundations of avoidance. The brain perceives and the body responds again.

Almost every living being has these instincts, usually well founded in meeting other beings. Most people, animals, all have the awareness of situations either pleasant or dangerous, with an innate knowledge of survival.

Ragtag Community Prompt: Homecoming

Homecoming means so many things–all warm your heart. My first thought is having my grown children come to visit. My home changes with moving, life changes, and jobs in different worlds, but home is wherever we are together again. The same good feeling is when my grandchildren come home from college or a weekend away.

My own childhood home is also home to me. I haven’t been there in too long a time because of different health and financial reasons, but it doesn’t change the meaning of the word.

Over my life in different locations, the outside of homes has changed quite a few times, but the homecoming feeling stays right where it belongs, in my heart.

MLMM Sunday Writing Prompt 5×5

๐Ÿ“ƒ๐Ÿ“ƒ๐Ÿ“ƒ๐Ÿ“ƒ๐Ÿ“ƒ๐Ÿ“ƒ

Mildred buried herself in quilts on the divan. It was freezing inside the house, but her husband thought it was fine. She said, “look at my face! It’s ash grey I’m so cold! The fireplace needs wood. All I could find to burn were those sage leaves. Burning sage smells good but doesn’t provide any heat!” She pulled up the covers around her head.

“I don’t know what your problem is, Mildred, maybe you’re coming down with something. It’s not that cold.” He walked over to peer at the circle on the wall. “The thermostat says fifty degrees. Surely that’s warm enough, we have to conserve!”

“Maybe if you’re out in the sun, but inside it’s too chilly!” Mildred retrieved tissues from her robe pocket and blew, again. Then she added them to the large pile on the end table to make a point.

Afterwards Prompt 5

“Once upon a never”

The angry woman shook her head

Again her husband rose from bed.

It won’t stop, all those noises that I hear

Get up again and this time fix it right, my dear!

Alright, I will, but I was just relaxing

Fixing things at midnight is very taxing.

I suppose you’re just too tired to fix it one more time

Of course not, I know I have to answer to the chime.

Then keeping silent, the man completes the chore

And then tiredly, returns to bed once more

A sound repeats, she asks him to rise up

“Check downstairs, I think maybe it’s the pup”

Reluctantly, he don’s his robe for another investigation

His patience is wearing thin, turns to consternation

Then the man returns to bed and pulls up all the blankets

Hoping all is settled, sleeps, but still remaining thankless.

๐Ÿ˜ด๐Ÿ˜ด๐Ÿ˜ด

Finally he’s sleeping, and this is what he dreams:

She finally realizes to appreciate him, it seems

Incredulous he hears her say to him, “you are such a helpful spouse

I owe you a big thank you for taking care of me and this old house.”

Three Line Tales, Week 153

Haunted Wordsmith Page 17, Line 7

“Alexander Hamilton” by Ron Chernow

“In Charleston, the Nevis capital, where legend proclaims that Alexander was born”. . .Of course this information was read haltingly by the college prep school students who could care less where Hamilton was born, or any other facts about their country’s historical figures.

The only reason Joe joined the class was to be able to gaze at his newfound love, Jenny. Jenny was a history buff and read everything she could about American history, especially when Alexander Hamilton was involved. After seeing the Hamilton musical, she was hooked. She loved the class and was oblivious to Joe’s attention.

Joe on the other hand was also hooked, determined to get a date with Jenny. His friends were aware and had placed small wagers on whether or not Joe would succeed. Unknowingly, Joe confided earlier to Frank and then Frank to Jim, and by the time the bets were on, it was all over the school.

An old ploy by Joe didn’t turn out as planned. He pretended to bump into Jenny after class and thought picking up her books would gain her attention. Unfortunately, his attempt was squashed as another Hamilton lover, who just happened to be taller and stronger than Joe, rushed in at the last moment and saved Jenny’s day.

Poor, poor, pitiful Joe. . .just kidding, he’ll find his love the next year. She plays soccer, Joe’s favorite sport in which he stars, the following year.

Suddenly…..

I lift my iPad and what do I see

Emoji snapchats messaging me

Grandkids aplenty here and there

Sending morning wishes because they care

Awwwww… (pause for sighing)

Two are riding their way to soccer

One here, reading a book in my rocker

One is at work at the cinema

One at a lab solving enigmas

One is on fire duty, always seems to be

And one is taking exams in Greeley

All of these greetings are precious to me

How blessed, how lucky can an old lady be?
