Three Line Tales, Week 52-100 Words

The rising sun brilliantly starts another day. It’s a light bringing promises of new beginnings, and new adventures to this ancient land. A land of kingdoms, queens, princes and mighty warrior knights. How many battles were fought upon these lands? How much blood was shed in the name of righteousness or freedom?

I say too many. Too many men still dying for these endeavors. A man’s dreams cannot be conquered.

This structure, still standing, received many believing their fight was the good one. There is no good fight that ends in war. It only ends in the destruction of  lives.

Tale 104-26117-A Magical Place

A hole in a tree, that’s what she thought.  Nothing special.  She was tired from her walk and sat down across from the tree and fell asleep.  In her slumber she imagined she was so tiny she could enter the gap in the green bark.  Not knowing why she should tiptoe, but did so as she entered.  It was not as dark inside as she first thought.  In fact there were a few strange moving lights on the sides.  Always being a curious child, she ventured further into the cavelike structure.

“Good day, my dear!”she heard from the dark.  The figure of a dragonfly flew close to her side, almost as large as herself, but she was not frightened.  “Have you come to greet the Princess?”  The greeter motioned for her to follow.  “Here she is!”

The child was fascinated by the appearance of birds, butterflies, damselflies, bumble bees, and others.  In the center of these creatures was a pale pink rose.  The rose petals surrounded a tiny fairy.  Her wings were still covered with droplets of dew.  Upon the child’s presence, the Princess opened her eyes.  The child was mesmerized with the fairy’s  beauty.  She was about to extend a small finger to touch the rose when she heard a loud shout.

“Mary, where are you?  Oh, there you are, did you fall asleep?  What a charming place you found.  Come along.”  Mary shook herself off and looked down where she fallen asleep.  What a dream, she thought to herself.  She glanced at the hole in the green bark, and noticed something, a pale pink rose petal.

It’s been a long day, darling, and I need this cigarette! Why so long?  It was that interminable parade downtown.  We were all going to just dart in and out, but it was too crowded.  We were swept along with the rest.  Yes, I saw that.  He was stupid to make such a fuss, no wonder he was arrested.  Mardi Gras is full of people like us, why he had to make even more trouble….yes, he’s new at this.  We are all in this together, but we wear masks for a reason.  He should have let the cop just pass by after bumping him.  But of course he didn’t, threw his mask at him.  He’s lucky he didn’t get arrested for assault right then, but he wouldn’t shut up.  He’ll learn eventually.  We all have.  I’m so tired and these heels are killing me.  You staying over?  Okay then, coffee at noon?

#JusJoJan Daily Prompt – Jan. 26th/17-Extraordinary

A mother’s resilience is simply extraordinary.  Having said that, there’s nothing simple about it.  Besides the innate love you have for your child, there is strength, beauty, patience, endurance, giving, taking, listening, advising, protection, and bravery.  How many mothers think it will take all these qualities and many more to raise a child?

The man and the open ended quiz.

Hi, MvL! I’ll take on this quiz, of course I’ll try to be brief πŸ˜‰. I said, try……

1. If my life were to be likened to food, I would pick Chop Suey. Lots of variety, very tasty, good for you ingredients, a little salty of course and delicious.

2. I think the best way for a movie to live on is to be really good! I do not like many remakes, such as “Mad Max”. I prefer the original form of most things. There have been wonderful black and white movies that just do not have the same quality if remade in the twenty-first century. However, the remake of “Beauty and the Beast” coming next month is a must see for me.

3. A cuisine I would like to try is Thai food. I think I would like the flavor.

4. I pamper myself all the time. I live alone and that makes it easy. I sleep (on a good night), eat, do what I want, when I want, most of the time. I burn scented candles and I love a warm cup of flavored coffee when I first wake up. That’s probably my favorite pampering.

5. Wow, easy one! If I could send anyone anywhere, it would be S and it would be to me.πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜‰

6. Since I don’t sleep well at all, I choose never having to sleep. Most of the time I watch what I eat, so no problem there.

7. The most vivid dream I’ve ever had was a recurring one, over the years since my childhood. I haven’t had it in about five years. We had a maple grove of trees where I grew up. There was an open path leading to it and we often walked there, especially in spring looking for the first blooming flowers. My dream was walking there and seeing a big house. Everytime I had the dream I went into another, different room of the house. Weird, eh? Dr. Freud, are you there?

8. I wouldn’t want to go back ten years. It would mean living over again my husband’s illness and death. If it could be all good, sure, but it never is. That’s life.

9. When I get hungry, I usually ignore it. I can go all day without eating anything. But if I go out, I usually eat whatever I want or have been craving, like that rhubarb pie!πŸ˜‚

10. Of course the thing you notice first about me is I’m in a wheelchair. But if I look someone new in the eye and smile, they look at me, and hopefully forget the chair.

Thanks, M.

100 Word Weekly Writing Challenge β€”Week 3

“We’ll never reach it. I think it’s even looking at us, like the “all seeing eye”!

“I know you’re freaked out being down here, but that’s just silly. It’s just part of the structure, someone’s idea of art.” He tried to be flippant, but it was eerie, looking up.

“We shouldn’t have taken the dare. Now we’re stuck down here and can’t reach the top to get out.”

“You think if we say sorry, they’ll come let us out?”

“Hey, guys! We’re really sorry”, he yelled. “Help us out?”

They heard a click, and a voice saying, “Hello, boys, welcome.”

Photo Challenge-149

“Will you hurry?  I’m about to burst!”  She could hardly bend enough to get her slippers on.  She was in pain and every movement seemed to cause more.  “Oh my God, if we don’t hurry, I’m going to have this baby right here!”

Julie’s husband was hurrying as fast as he could, the weather was horrible.  The roads thick with snow and ice, and he should have put those snow tires on like she asked.  “I’m hurrying!  I just want the car to warm up some for you.”  He grabbed the suitcase, already packed a month earlier, thank heavens.  His wife was totally organized, but why do babies always seem to come in the middle of the night?  He looked around, what did he do with the keys?  Where could?  Oh, for Petes sake, they’re in the car!  It’s running already.

“Paul, it’s coming!  I don’t think we’ll make it!  I knew that doctor didn’t believe me.  I told him I couldn’t sleep with this backache.  I knew it was time.”  Besides the fact of her symptoms for eminent birth, there was the warning from her mother at lunchtime.

“You’re going to have that baby today.  I can tell by the look on your face.”  Mom usually thought she knew best, but this time she was spot on.  How she could tell from her face, she didn’t  know.  She called the doctor telling him her contractions were quickening, but she knew his golf game had priority.

Paul ran up the stairs, a worried look on his face.  “You’ll be okay, it won’t take long to get there,” trying to be convincing even though he was in doubt.  In the car she grew more and more uncomfortable.  They arrived at the hospital.

Even though they had done a pre-checkin, Julie wasn’t rushed into the maternity ward.  In fact she was sitting on the edge of a stool in the reception area.  Paul was hastily filling out forms while his wife was squirming in pain nearby.  It seemed like hours until she was finally helped into a wheelchair and taken to the delivery area.  Not the delivery room, but a pre delivery room.  She was prepped on a table that was flat, hard and uncomfortable.  The nurse was in and out and finally Paul entered in a green surgical outfit.  They barely looked at each other when the nurse came and said, “Dr. Jones is doing another birth.  She is having a breech baby.  You’ll have to cross your legs.”

Julie looked at Paul, “seriously?”

“This isn’t a joke.  You can’t have that baby until the doctor comes!”  The nurse had a helpless look on her face.  Paul looked unbelievably at his wife.  Was this really happening?  They heard a woman screaming from the next rooms.  It must have been the breech birth.  Paul and Julie were terrified.  How could this all be happening?  They had taken the Lamaze classes, they knew what was happening in that room.  Fear started to panic them.  His surgical gloved hand held Julie’s.

Suddenly the door opened and an orderly and a nurse rushed in.  The nurse led the way, the orderly grabbed Julie’s bed and started running down the hall.  Paul grabbed on to the top of the bed.  The three of them were running the hall, doors flying.  Julie was stunned, all she could see was the ceiling lights whizzing by.  Paul was sweating, running along behind Julie’s head.  Julie only caught a glimpse of him.

A doctor she’d never met stood at the bottom of the table. Five minutes later, Paul gave Julie a kiss, his face almost completely covered by a surgical mask.  Julie held their baby daughter.  They were relieved she was perfect.  They couldn’t have been happier.

This is a true story of my daughter’s birth in 1971.
