Writing Prompt – 3   The Petrified Star

She found it at last, the petrified star. The tattered map didn’t lie, as she followed every point and found the treasure–not worth gold or silver, but a directional star. Now she was ready for the real journey.

This legendary star had been sought since ancient times. If you’re fortunate enough to find it you only need wish what you desire and the star will point you in the direction to find it. It’s only a legend, but she been researching it for a while.

She put her hands on the star, made a silent wish and its light glowed.

Picture Prompt-144

The man: Yup, it’s up there alright.  Now how am I supposed to get it?  Even a camera wouldn’t get a picture in this light.  And if I use a flash I’ll be flooded with the rest of the creatures when it shines so bright.  I’m looking for just this one type of vampire bat, the flying fox.  Usually they nest in trees outside the caves, but this one I’ve been hearing about has made himself a king here in the cave.  He’s much larger and can see better than the smaller species of bats.  He can move around day or night, unlike these nocturnal companions.

The bat: Yup, he’s looking for me alright.  But if he tries to climb up here I’ll swoop right past him, and my six foot wide wings will frighten him.  He might even fall.  Then my mates might make use of him.  It would be a treat for them, a change, not having to feast on livestock.  I see he has a camera.  Good luck with that!  One flash and my little friends will frighten and swarm!  Oh I have you, my inquisitive victim.

Ranting Along – Wisdom

“You’re turning fifty?” He looks her up and down and then repeats, “Fifty? Well you don’t look it, sweetie. By my estimation you’re about thirty-five!” He gave her a short hug and they continued on their walk.

“Really Frank, I know you don’t do birthdays, but you have to admit, I’m getting up there!”

Her husband smiled and yelled out “Happy Birthday!” as he quickened the pace to a jog. She had no problem keeping up and even ran past him, laughing.

Frank knew that she would. She was in great shape and he wanted her to realize it.

Saturday Silliness

IMG_4884

She wore her fluffy pink tutu
And the white tights from Pluto
Slippers so rare
And left her arms bare
To hold onto her partner, Caputo.

The dance of ballet
So people say
Is full of beauty and fame
But this girl so pretty
And not too witty
Puts other dancers to shame.

Her pirouettes are tippy
Her posture is drippy
And her partners feel a disgrace
If her balance fails
She starts to flail
And promptly falls on her face.

I offer the end
Of this sad trend
For those athletically inept
Her partner’s to blame
If he’d caught the babe
Her reputation would have been kept.

Disclaimer — in my defense, I couldn’t get the first two lines out of my mind, so had to put them here.😟

A Bug’s Life

IMG_4883

It will be fun she said
As we started to dread
The adventure she had in mind.

Adjust your antennae
There’s no anabaena
(Most insects aren’t so kind)

Once you’ve passed the white
The first milky delight,
It’s pink and it’s creamy
So lovely, it’s dreamy!

Who thought in the end
Would be fun to descend
Into a lovely and sweet
Cool strawberry treat!

SoCS  May 19, 2017

All or nothing says it all. You can have everything you ever wanted and still have nothing that matters. The all is material items which most of us have more than enough. The nothing is lack of love. Can you have everything you want and nothing of love? I don’t think so. Without love in your life, no matter what kind it is, or how it comes, you have nothing.

Happy weekend everyone, and please, no more snow!🙄😳🤗

Time to Write – The Visit

Was it the incessant ticking of that gargoyle of a clock on the desk that is keeping me awake? Or is it that feeling someone is peering into the room by the antique portrait on the opposite wall. Those eyes that seem to be staring at you in your bed haunt me every night.

I can’t wait to go home. Visiting my elderly aunt in her rickety stair cased home is not my idea of a vacation. Everything here in this house makes strange noises. Not those common sounds you hear in a happy home, but weird, creepy ones. I am used to the combination of the television, cell phones, doorbells, kitchen appliances, all causing a disturbing cacophony. I thought this visit would be relaxing.

This house is deathly quiet except for the odd noises. In the guest room I’m just trying to sleep a little before I have to board the train tomorrow to go home. Who would think the noisy, constantly moving chatter of my own home would feel so welcoming and safe?

Word Prompt-88  Island

“No man is an island…” John Donne

Probably this is what most of us thought of when viewing this Prompt. I have to differ with the old poet. We may not actually be adrift at sea by ourselves, but we can surely feel like it at times. And my meaning of the quote is alone, lonely, lonesome, for something, you may not even know what.

I feel like that many times, and it’s not because of my situation, or that I’m a widow, or handicapped, although those may be subconscious feelings I don’t want to let in. It’s because each of us, no matter what our circumstances, our family life, friends, work, whatever, are ultimately by ourselves. I remember standing up at a meeting to voice my opinion.  Before the meeting, many people were “with” me.  When it came time to stand up, I was the only one. This is an example of what I mean by being by yourself.  You have yourself, and sometimes you need to have the strength to know that’s okay, it’s enough.

Remember When – two word Prompt-48

Remember when you thought the worst thing that could happen to you was a squeeze and unwanted slobbery kiss from the stinkiest kid in school?

Remember when you were wearing that light blue two layer prom dress your mother made and you received your first real kiss on your doorstep?

Remember the first time you sat in the driver’s seat of a car, to actually drive?

Remember the permanent smile on your face the first time the doctor told you that you were pregnant?

Remember the loving look on your husband’s face as he held his first child?

Remember the overwhelming love you felt when you saw your first grandchild?

I remember all of these and how grateful I am to have experienced them, well maybe not the first one!😂
