Writing Prompts – Voice

***

Sometimes you have no choice

You have to use your voice

A speech, a comment, a statement

There is no time for abatement

Today’s world you will hear

Voices that you learn to fear

Speaking out with words of hate

Reading this from every state

It’s hard to use your voice this day

Might you be carried away

Expressing your thoughts too loud

Some think that, in a crowd

No longer is your speech free

Mandates causing some to flee.

Your voice, your writing, should not compromise

When overlords try to control your cries.

June was drawn to the rocks and gems display at the museum, always the first stop and her children would complain. Whenever June was feeling depressed, the museum was her respite. As the children got older she could let them explore while she stayed in the geology section. One sparkling exhibit she visited every time seemed to rejuvenate her when she stood by it. This day no one was around as June was gazing into the display and suddenly a flash of light appeared. June was revitalized and swiftly left the geologic section smiling and happy to join her children.

Joe bent over at the waist, trying to get an artist’s perspective on the display ahead of him. “I don’t know Mike, maybe you have to lie flat on the ground to get the concept! Maybe they represent the chaos and broken world we live in now.”

“Or….possibly he was in the middle of construction and there was an earthquake,” laughing at his friend’s serious demeanor. “Not everyone just plops down a few rocks and thinks it’s a masterpiece!” The two men continued down the path to visit other displays, Joe muttering something about disrespect.

Fandango’s Flashback Friday

                FFfAW July 25, 2017
Hey! A little help here?” Joe was left alone, stuck in the sand, while his three teenage sons scrambled out of the boat to climb the rocks. “I don’t think I deserve this!  Is this how you kids act when I’ve spent time and money planning this trip?”
Joe just wanted them to have everything he wanted when he was their age…. Joe was disappointed, but came to realize they probably needed him more than the stuff they asked for.
Joe spends all of his time working, but this is his weekend with the boys. He’s learning the hard way that what goes around, comes around. Away at the office working constantly, he is never home to influence his boys with what they need most–love and attention.
