The pace of life once speeding on, now trickles by in boredom
Daily important tasks so frequent, become unnecessary
As life slows down when we age, so do goals we once achieved

Greetings! Ingrid of Experiments in Fiction here, with a prompt I hope will inspire you. I would like you to write a poem about a special gift you have received at some time in your life.

When romance dwindled and life became routine
A gift from my husband fulfilled a dream
Unexpected from the usual new appliance sheen
A beauty pair of earrings with colorful gemstones seen.

5 Things You Love/Hate About Winter

Take a snickersnee to ordinary words, embrace the strange. Walk around that bend, throw yourself a curve ball, keep the homey familiar, but don’t confine yourself to that reasonable circle. Step into the bizarre, and see where it takes you.

Ever think your world’s a bit wonky?
When you get out of bed, think it will be on-key?
Well let me say I think I must be maladjusted
Listening to news, think the video must be busted
Earthquakes, shootings, and then weird weathers
Skewjawed officials mouth off with unjust tethers
Is it me or is our world out of control
Me, the ostrich, am going back to my bedroll.

I preface this with the fact I have never really enjoyed books written by Nicholas Sparks. I know they are wildly popular romance novels and not my favorite genre. But I was ready to listen to something different and am liking the Nicholas Sparks book, “See Me”, once I was used to the narrator’s style. There is a funny line where a woman character is trying to tell an inexperienced guy about salsa dancing, and her boyfriend offers: “you know how to salsa dance?” She replied she had been dancing for over 12 years and learned alternative dances—I grew up in Charleston. Anything other than the shag and the waltz was considered alternative. It’s funny, serious and romantic but I did really enjoy it and the narrator.
