I am a widow since 2013 and live by myself in a small apartment. I use a wheelchair to get around, but I wouldn't consider myself disabled. I'm 11 years away from having bladder cancer resulting in a urostomy and I'm doing well. This cancer was a result of having radiation in 1995 because of uterine cancer. So have faith in yourself, a cancer diagnosis is not a death sentence. My first try at blogging was an attempt to help other people with my condition. I am a mother of three married children, and a grandmother to eight gorgeous kids, featuring them often here, and a great grandmother to two as of today, 6/7/25! I enjoy exploring my feelings and like to try the challenges. I like humor, music, movies, games, and some sports. I absolutely appreciate your reading and commenting on my blog. I am happy to read all of your blogs and learn more about you. Please comment however you like, ask whatever, and I'll answer honestly. Thanks for reading! Cheryl
The singe of a summer sunset glimmered in the heat index of high nineties, as I began searching for a particular scarf needed when the air cools. Another hint of my advancing age felt as I straightened up too quickly beside the bureau and scraped my knee on the drawer. The demons of age visit often now.
Years ago I decided to reside near the sea where I could wade in the cerulean shallows with my also aged companion, Jeeves, my Irish wolfhound. The salt water trickles around our feet, and we see the bonfire is already glowing. All the mothers and grandmothers were arriving to celebrate Mother’s Day.
Only a trifle irritation as I boarded the train to see where flax and its byproduct bysuss was harvested. My intended destination was across the sea to a Mediterranean area named “the Fertile Crescent”, but the head of the household said our budget was not that big. The intrinsic value of a flax crop is amazing. It is a lifesaving source of food and the waving fronds suggest an almost biblical image. This fiber has many uses as a good source, such as food, clothing, twine, rope and oil from seeds. Canada, here. Come!
“Flaxseed is one of the oldest crops, having been cultivated since the beginning of civilization.”
“Flax is produced on about 12 million acres globally with the largest areas of production in Kazakhstan, Russia, Canada and China.”
“Flaxseed is emerging as an important functional food ingredient because of its rich contents of α-linolenic acid (ALA, omega-3 fatty acid), lignans, and fiber. Flaxseed oil, fibers and flax lignans have potential health benefits such as in reduction of cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, osteoporosis, autoimmune and neurological disorders.”

Surrounded by green, the forest is flush with ferns. We hadn’t bought this property with the idea of building on it, just wanted a piece of my family’s mountain. We didn’t see it before we plopped down the payment and we decided it was time to let our kids see the area where I grew up. We knew it had a fresh water spring and that’s about it. The dirt path substituting for a road led us into this scene from a fairytale. Thick with trees and huge delicate fern fronds up to my chest, it was as if I was dreaming.
Valights, those small, skinnier valiant knights that everyone needs for small chores. They wear undersized armor, ride ponies instead of large white steeds and fight as valiantly as their bigger brothers in arms. Valights usually complete smaller tasks too important for their squires and it’s not unusual to see them holding their own in a less significant duel. Everyone cheers them on and they have their own set of swords, a bit lighter than full sized knights brandish. All’s fair in love and war…
The layer of plastic created a foul odor as the tsunami of bottles and discarded containers raved upon the shore. It was a wave of putrid trash that engulfed the popular tourist venue. The real carelessness of visitors had caused the small village seem to vanish under the water. No amount of trying to cajole and plead with tourists worked and they would cheat on environmental rules by tossing their items willy-nilly on the beautiful grounds.
Mother Nature decided it was time to retaliate and caused all trash in nearby areas to consume these thoughtless visitors under a huge wave. As it receded, the sight of straggling people sitting in their own mess was a lesson learned.
Overdone, overstated, over and over we hear that demanding voice whining about losing the election from an overly obnoxious person! Get over it already!
Absolute power, absolute disintegration of democracy, absolute denigration of we the people. If every vote is questioned and every law changed, where do we end up? We end up with absolute dictatorship in our land built on freedoms. This country began on the idea of escaping strict rules of religion and the separation of church and state was established. Now some politicians want to backpedal into the past. We can’t let this nation resort to their biased and racist ideas.
