The Sunday Whirl

The white sheet was carefully thrown over the elder’s body. The man’s loss was evident as mourners tossed wispy stalks of thistle upon the crest of the sheet. There was a visible tremor from the depths of the earth and a suddenly forbidding sky, as if even the universe could feel his demise. After the burial and a tall tombstone befitting his esteemed life, a black crow cawed a song of sorrow for his death.

MLMM – No Nonsense

Welcome to the Saturday Mix – No Nonsense, 18 February 2023!
You will be given a nonsensical, made-up word. You will need to come up with your own definition and use it creatively and in context, in your response. It is your choice whether you write using poetry or prose.

Your nonsense word this week is: “sembine“. Remember, define it; then use it!

Sembine: slang for some beans

Sam powered up the barbecue with way too much lighter fluid and set the nearby tree on fire. The charcoal was doused with salt and water, so the idea of ribs for dinner was a nonstarter. “Don’t worry, shugah” his wife offered. I have sembine to serve.”

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt

“I am not” he complained. “And who even knows what that word means anyway? I know I’m not from the planet Saturn, so exactly what are you accusing me of?” Joe frowned, sat back in the darkness, drapes closed, with half empty bottle of bourbon beside him.

Word of the Day- Foaming

Let me ask you a question.

Do you like being put on hold when on phone, or waiting in general? I’m an impatient person so my answer is “no”.

And what do I do to not be foaming at the mouth in frustration? I doodle, it relaxes my noodle.

The only drawback is the mess a ballpoint pen makes on the paper. I could show you some of my elaborate creations but they end up in the trash bin. But if you do doodle, please share in a comment here or make your own post. Enquiring minds want to know😃

Personal side note: In first grade his teacher said my middle son was a pita—only because he doodled in margins of his paperwork. His answer to why he did it was because he was bored. I asked the teacher if he could bring a book to read while being “bored”. She said no. When my middle son was in third grade he was tested as genius/gifted.

Doodle: verb: scribble absentmindedly noun: a rough drawing made absentmindedly.

3TC+ Power to the People

“Where’s your passion, Frank? Where’s the honor and pride you used to speak about—even eloquently? Now you spout the same boring rhetoric that you filter from Fox News and those blowhards screaming at people in congress!”

Frank looked down at his feet, trying not to remember his younger days of protest in the sixties. She was right.

SoCS 2-18-23

Problems, problems! Since I moved fourteen months ago I have a different internet service. I use the term “service” lightly because it, well putting it succinctly, stinks! I use my Libby app all the time for audible books and because of an internet outage last week, lost the list of my previously read books and access to the actual app. That’s a problem when you read a few books in a series. I had to reset my internet connections on all devices a few times and I’m not even going into the multiverse of tv connections! I have to ask someone to take me to the library so Libby can be fixed. 🤨

Fandango’s Flashback Friday

Just one more my dear, please

The sinister words came with ease

Grotesque, though offered to appease

His captor as her death is seen

All the while the lens kept clicking

As her heart beat slowed its ticking

Magnified images he was thinking

As in her pain he was drinking

Just one more he pled again

As life drifted from her brain

His specialty, photographing pain

His clientele unknown remain.
