I am a widow since 2013 and live by myself in a small apartment. I use a wheelchair to get around, but I wouldn't consider myself disabled. I'm 11 years away from having bladder cancer resulting in a urostomy and I'm doing well. This cancer was a result of having radiation in 1995 because of uterine cancer. So have faith in yourself, a cancer diagnosis is not a death sentence. My first try at blogging was an attempt to help other people with my condition. I am a mother of three married children, and a grandmother to eight gorgeous kids, featuring them often here, and a great grandmother to two as of today, 6/7/25! I enjoy exploring my feelings and like to try the challenges. I like humor, music, movies, games, and some sports. I absolutely appreciate your reading and commenting on my blog. I am happy to read all of your blogs and learn more about you. Please comment however you like, ask whatever, and I'll answer honestly. Thanks for reading! Cheryl
The sky was bleak, the wind was picking up and I had just spent a half hour making sure my hair was in a tidy coiffure. I was meeting a new acquaintance I met online at this park. All that went by the wayside of course as soon as a cloud, seemingly with a purpose, suddenly decided to change direction and make a hasty trip right over my head. It was a large dark gray monstrosity and full of lightning and rain, maybe even hail! I decided to break for the picnic shelter a few yards away. There was a family there, and possibly the person I was to meet. I asked if I could share the space since I was alone.
Then the entire atmosphere changed. The people turned their heads toward me as if I was rudely interrupting them. I was, boy…was I! The supposedly innocent family gathering revealed a ritual of some sort. Nothing good, I saw, as the biggest man was holding a dripping knife and there was the proverbial bowl of red liquid—blood, I imagined.
I quickly stepped back out of the enclosure and turned toward my car. It seemed an interminable distance as I stumbled along, aghast at the horrid scene. They seemed to accept my leaving and returned to their activities, whatever they were. I shuddered as I turned on my car’s engine and sped away.
My cautious friend tried to warn me from meeting online strangers alone. She was correct!

PROMPT WORD: LIFT
***
Wanting to look younger was her rift, decided to see a doc for a lift.
Sure he said with a maniacal smile, she decided to go along for the ride.
After, in the bath she looked in the mirror, the results couldn’t have been much clearer.
Her chest resembled Mounts on Rushmore, not just two, but two more.
She was shocked at the picture painted, fell into the tub when she fainted.
Her saving grace as was floundering, the new chest kept her from drowning.
Every soldier is a special someone in somebody’s life. When a warrior falls in defense of their homeland and it’s citizens, we sometimes forget that somewhere a mother just lost a son, a wife just lost a husband, or a little girl lost her mommy or daddy.
Nothing can ever fill that void in those people’s lives.Ever.
The very least we can do is take a moment to remember.
For all the fine men and women who gave their lives in conflict, I express my gratitude.
I pray for the day when sacrifices like those are no longer necessary.
