What are you Reading?

***

I just started the third book in Don Winslow’s City series with character Danny Ryan. All of Don Winslow’s books I have enjoyed in Audible. I started with “The Dawn Patrol” and have read it a few times, also a favorite main character, Boone Daniels. I wish there were more of Daniels’ ongoings, but that series was published in 2009, so probably not. I have read his cartel series which has opened my eyes to the drug trade and more. I highly recommend this author.

City in Ruins

“Sometimes you have to become what you hate to protect what you love. Danny Ryan is rich. Beyond his wildest dreams rich.

The former dock worker, Irish mob soldier and fugitive from the law is now a respected businessman – a Las Vegas casino mogul and billionaire silent partner in a group that owns two lavish hotels. Finally, Danny has it all: a beautiful house, a child he adores, a woman he might even fall in love with. Life is good. But then Danny reaches too far”

  1. broken yellow teeth
  2. Austin Pendleton— as Fred
  3. prodigal

The production only lasted a week, and poor old Austin Pendleton as Fred, took his role seriously. Too seriously, in fact, because when the script called for his character, the prodigal Fred to have broken yellow teeth, Austin visited his dentist with an odd request. Now Austin has a hard time finding new roles with his changed appearance, seemingly permanent.

I’ve been waiting for much needed necessary medical supplies. I have called to find they have not even been ordered. A routine medical supply order has been ignored because the order person left early for the holidays. Am I livid to find there are no emergency contacts, no doctor offices that I can contact to get these supplies even paying an out of pocket expense? Our medical system is convoluted, cumbersome, clueless, clumsy and costly; I think I need to start an efficient medical supply business—who’s with me? That was a joke, but if you have medical “issues” (I hate that word) you have to keep a sense of humor.

The Sunday Whirl

Sarah stared, wide-eyed at the white frothed waves shifting ever higher into the cave. She knew she had to go in and face the “one”. Sarah’s normally safe world, outside this place of spirits and old legends could be shattered if she didn’t perform this ritual every year. She worriedly twisted the string of beads. Ignoring the cold spray from the sea, she entered the sacred cave. Conducted in a few moments as the sea began to rise, quietly ignoring the cold waves creeping up her legs, she said the secret words as many had before her.

I use the word cool a lot, I mean I use it for everything! If something’s intelligently written, uh, this post is not an example, it’s cool, if it’s surprisingly tasty, cool, a new song with great words you can actually understand, cool. A new outfit on your daughter? Cool.

Well I could go on, but in case you’re still reading, I have a pretty cool Christmas tree set up by my grandson and his girlfriend. I had some tinsel delivered because I grew up with foil tinsel on the tree and it’s homey. What I received was long thin strips of plastic, but they’re pretty—look like rain on the tree instead of icicles. I know you’re dying to see it, so here’s a pic before I finished the tinsel. My grandson’s girlfriend got a little crazy with the balls, but help any from them fuels gratitude. And of course, you’re sick of hearing this already—Brenda Lee still rockin’ at the 65th anniversary of her hit:
