I am a widow since 2013 and live by myself in a small apartment. I use a wheelchair to get around, but I wouldn't consider myself disabled. I'm 11 years away from having bladder cancer resulting in a urostomy and I'm doing well. This cancer was a result of having radiation in 1995 because of uterine cancer. So have faith in yourself, a cancer diagnosis is not a death sentence. My first try at blogging was an attempt to help other people with my condition. I am a mother of three married children, and a grandmother to eight gorgeous kids, featuring them often here, and a great grandmother to two as of today, 6/7/25! I enjoy exploring my feelings and like to try the challenges. I like humor, music, movies, games, and some sports. I absolutely appreciate your reading and commenting on my blog. I am happy to read all of your blogs and learn more about you. Please comment however you like, ask whatever, and I'll answer honestly. Thanks for reading! Cheryl

The Sunday Whirl

After Joe finished grasping the packages, he scanned them all so not to lose anything. He fit them into the van as usual, and put on his seatbelt ready to drive. Still sweating from the August heat, he had a hunch he’d better be quick delivering because a couple of the boxes said perishable. People knew better than to expect regular vans to be refrigerated, but that’s life, Joe thought, they never read the fine print.

Joe smiled to himself, hoping this day would be fast. Then he heard it, a slight noise, like little chains were rattling around in one of the parcels. He pulled over thinking surely no one would box up an animal, like a puppy or kitten! Joe loved kittens. He decided to investigate the sounds and decided on one box that was moving slightly. Joe was freaked out, what if it was a snake? Joe hated snakes, one of his worst fears!

Then a flap of the cardboard moved and out streamed a colony of mice, running fast. Joe fell back as the tiny creatures flowed out of the tiny opening. He shoved the box with the only weapon he could think of, the first aid kit hanging on the truck wall. Joe was not about to touch the box with his hands. He grabbed the metal box and used it to move the creepy package out the back of the truck.

The package lay on the side of the street and then to Joe’s amazement, an extremely long striped snake came out of the flap the mice had fled through. Joe stayed up on the truck edge and the snake slid into the nearby culvert drain grate. Joe started shaking and quit his job that afternoon.

Song Lyric Sunday

I read that ‘All Right Now’ by Free has the greatest opening line of any song ever written and although it is unlike Tennyson, Byron or Keats, this opening line lets you know it is going to be a rock song.  A strong opening for a song sets the tone for the entire track and makes it memorable by establishing an immediate emotional atmosphere.

My choice is the opening solo by the amazing –

  • Guitarist: Angus Young (Lead guitar).
  • Technique: Rapid hammer-ons and pull-offs (0-4, 0-7, 0-9, etc.) on the B string.

Sensibility may come with age, I think, as Susan gathered up files. The papers always neatly selected and properly stowed away in cardboard folders. It only makes sense to do it once, correctly, she thought. There may come a day when all of these new fangled gadgets will run out of batteries and what will they do? There’s no shame in learning how to write legibly, keep handwritten or typed papers for future use if needed.

The doctor stared at Charlie, the hyena. The veterinarian/scientist was waiting for Charlie’s reaction to a treat of cheesecake for two tasks the hyena had completed. It was a rare occurrence for the mobile veterinary chemist to see such a reaction, but chuckled as Charlie began to dance the jive, showing his appreciation for the treat!

  1. Coffee maker, because everyone is always happy to see you and grateful to greet you in the morning.☺️
  2. My favorite sandwich is at Denny’s restaurant, the Super Bird: turkey breast, Swiss cheese, bacon and tomato, grilled on sourdough bread.😋
  3. Hopefully none because it would be ideal to die in my sleep. I’ve watched family members die and I don’t want my family to endure that.
