dVerse Poets Poetics

Charlie scuffed the sand to cover a crab walking along the water’s edge. It was early morning and every day he took a walk on the beach to clear his head from the last night’s dreams. Charlie admired the surfers in their wet suits to keep warm in the water while waiting for that next big wave. He had tried it but couldn’t stay up on the board and finally gave up.

Charlie’s life was like that. Try and fail repeating and his dreams reflected those thoughts. That is why he’s here, every morning, determined to try again. He wished he could fly carefree as the gulls did. But his own thoughts betrayed him, thinking, “I have no skills for flight or wings to skim the waves effortlessly, like the wind itself.” Charlie will try again and maybe this time – success.

  1. I enjoyed your Prosery, Cheryl, and you brought Charlie to life for me. I love the way you set the scene in the first paragraph, and made me cheer him on in the second one.
