2030: The possibilities seemed endless, my whole future was ahead of me and I absolutely could not wait to get started with this new company. All the technology of the future was waiting in this new endeavor. Just walking through the entry, overwhelmed by everything, all the lights, the bright crystals, a good omen according to my psychic, seem to be foretelling of a wonderful new future. This company was going to change things. I am so excited.

2045: Fifteen short years was all it took. The bright future I had seen over ten years ago, and entered into with hope for new possibilities, for new solutions for our world, gone! With all of our knowledge, all of our technical capabilities, even with the help of the new AI generation and fresh minds eager to explore new answers, we lost everything. I don’t think it was a matter of what we tried and failed to do in the end, when we realized the future that we thought couldn’t happen, just a remote possibility. I don’t think it was a matter of complete apathy, I think it was our destiny from the beginning. I look now into the nothingness as my own body is disintegrating into that void and I think of what we could have changed if we had just acted earlier.

The time to act is now. A very well told story.

The ultimate case of hindsight being 20/20 and too little too late. Truly excellent writing, Cheryl. Fantastic. 🙏🙏🙏
