The Unicorn Challenge

No pets allowed, not even a bird

That’s what it says in those words

No more being chased by a dog

No more stepping on smelly logs

I know it’s crass, but til it happens to you

I think you wouldn’t like it, too.

Of course there are gulls who can be nasty

Might get too close, you need rhinoplasty

But think of it this way, I might sound moany

Beaches are for people, happy or lonely

There should be dog beaches but for pets only.

  1. You took the unexpected approach and supported the sign. What a great idea. I hear what you’re saying in your delightful, whimsical poem. There can be problems when people and dogs share spaces and that has to be managed. (And I do love dogs.)

  2. not like I don’t always agree with ceayr, but as much as I hold dogs in the highest of esteem, it is (their) human that deserves to be admonished when their charges misbehave.

An example of the true evil of self-centeredness is when a person allows their companion animal cause others in a public place to feel intimidated or otherwise uncomfortable.

It is never the dog’s fault.

didn’t mean to get all preachy, but as with most of the evil in the world, this is about the human capacity for selfishness.

  3. Good poem, Rugby, making a valid point.
I think dogs would probably agree with you – a beach far from people who restrict their fun! 🙃
    Nasty and rhinoplasty – wonderful!
Has ‘rhinoplasty’ ever been used in a poem before, I wonder? 😉

  4. While I have some sympathy with your point of view, the problem is, as always, caused by the few, those who let their dogs run wild among excited children, saying ‘Oh, he won’t bite!’
    Until he does.

Beaches must be, first and foremost, a place for the kids, even nervous ones, to play freely and safely.
