W3 – Rondeau Freedom

Freedom isn’t free, is it

No answers from any wise wit

While evil ones survive

The cost results in many lives

Seemingly justified in patriotic bits

No lights of freedom lit

The freedom armies sit

Waiting for the next war

Freedom isn’t free

When will freedom ever fit

Church’s burning candles admit

While the public asks for more

To hear the horrid cannons roar

Young bodies’ bullets bit

Freedom isn’t free

**I hope this conforms

  1. Indeed freedom isn’t free, maybe never is it completely possible for humans either…. like good and bad, right and wrong, freedom is just another one of life’s opposites we live with to some degree. Very thought provoking take … I enjoyed it 💞Suzanne

  2. A wonderful take on the theme of freedom! Nothing is ever “free” as there is a cost of some type. But in the end we have to ask if the cost was worth the prize…. Wonderful though provoking poem!

  3. Cheryl, I appreciate your stark honesty. I think the repetition of “Freedom isn’t free” reinforces the somber theme and emphasizes the ongoing struggles associated with the pursuit of freedom.
