SoCS

Being a very busy mom, taking care of us and our four grandparents, I heard this a lot. “Early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise”. Early bedtimes and with our playing outside every day no matter the weather probably helped her. I did love to help her with anything🙄😂. Her own mother used to say if you think of doing a bad thing say “get thee behind me Satan”.

I’m on the back

This is Trigger, he was our wonderful red chestnut quarter horse. He was a well- trained reining cow-pony. When Dad got on him, Trigger got excited, his head went up and Dad put him through the paces; turning on a dime, figure eights, short stops.
Then to test for safety for us kids, he rode him at full gallop up and down the hill farm pasture and through a swamp. Trigger never
stumbled so Dad said, “Yup, he’ll do’.

  1. My favourite saying from my father is “What’s for you won’t go by you.” Also, whenever we asked him about the scar on his knee, he would always say “That’s where the horse kicked me.” I grew up honestly believing that my dad spent a lot of time around horses. He did not. Ha haha!

    1. My dad grew up on a ranch with all types of horses and used them in various ways. This was a horse he could utilize with the cows, do tricks on and then he settled down when we kids were on him. “The American Quarter Horse, or Quarter Horse, is an American breed of horse that excels at sprinting short distances. Its name is derived from its ability to outrun other horse breeds in races of a quarter mile or less; some have been clocked at speeds up to 55 mph.”Wikipedia

    2. It is smaller than a draft breed but an average size horse, The term quarter comes from the breed is extremally fast in the quarter mile but not breed for long races.
