She opened the box only to discover the cake was smashed in on the side. Instead of reading Happy Birthday Norma, it now read Happy Birthday Norm. Considering it was a celebration for the newly gendered woman, this called for drastic measures.
Norma, formerly Henry Adams, was a sweet person who never felt right in his body. Now turning thirty-five, he decided enough was enough and made the change. Closest friends were supportive, though vapid brained parents refused to acknowledge Norma, who was also disowned by most of the family.
Marie shut the box and ran to the bakery. Luckily they had a plain cake on hand and decorated it with the proper greeting. Norma’s happiness on this birthday was especially poignant and everything had to be perfect.
