Putting My Feet in the Dirt 29

My ears must be wrong

It’s been too long

Since I heard that song

And saw her dance

Did I ever have a chance

Did she even see my glance?

Couples glided around the rink

I thought our eyes might link

Then thought my heart would sink

Another swept by and took her arm

My attempt held no charm

I couldn’t compete with her gendarme

I watched them glide away

Hand in hand with a knowing sway

My heart on the icy surface lay

A moment, only a short distress

My vision turned to nothingness

I’ll never forget she wore a red dress.
