Putting My Feet in the Dirt 26 and Prompt: Native

“Remember the magic” he whispered in French, his native tongue. Well known for his romantic personality, Jacque waltzed his wife around the ballroom. Their dancing skills provided winning professional awards, and constant togetherness.

Being married for twenty years, they met in Paris at a ballroom dance competition. Fate had stepped in when Marie’s partner broke his leg during practice. Fortunately, Jacque was covering the competition as an arranger, and their story began. Finding herself in a strange place without a partner, and only two days to find another, Marie was devastated. The romantic Paris setting and the song she had chosen were perfect except for losing her known partner. A chance meeting brought Jacque and Marie together and they have been partners ever since.

This night was the fourth of a week’s competition and Marie was more weary than usual. She had talked to Jacque about skipping this one competition because of it, but Paris was Paris, and they hadn’t been back in a few years. He knew her tiredness was temporary and decided to make it extra special for her. As he drew her onto the dance floor, he whispered the message, hoping she would remember the music–the very first song they had danced to.
