“They’re all leaving!” Five year old Susie was very upset. Why were they just letting all the kites fly away? It was bad enough they said her father was leaving, now the kites too? She didn’t understand. Everyone seemed angry and upset, crying all the time.
“What was the matter”, she wondered. “Did I do something wrong? Everybody seems mad at me, tells me to go to my room, and they start whispering when I come into a room.”
This conversation was one sided as Susie confided in her favorite stuffed animal, a unicorn. Perhaps the unicorn knew that Susie’s dad was gone forever, that this day a funeral was held. Susie would fully realize what all this was about a few months later. Then she would again look tearfully into the sky, watching for the missing kites.
Nicely done.

Hoping a kindly uncle takes her kite flying but keeps it on a string.
