I like Russell Crowe in practically every movie he is in. This one, “The Insider” features him as Jeffrey Wigand and you can hardly tell the difference between the actor and the real person behind these true events.
“After seeking the expertise of former “Big Tobacco” executive Jeffrey Wigand (Russell Crowe), seasoned TV producer Lowell Bergman (Al Pacino) suspects a story lies behind Wigand’s reluctance to speak. As Bergman persuades Wigand to share his knowledge of industry secrets, the two must contend with the courts and the corporations that stand between them and exposing the truth. All the while, Wigand must struggle to maintain his family life amidst lawsuits and death threats.

I loved it also, have it taped. But he can play real people to a “t”.

Another piece of Russell Crowe trivia which you probably already know….. It is very unwise to challenge Russell to a family cricket game. I dare say Russell is pretty good himself, but he has two cousins who have captained New Zealand. Sadly, Martin Crowe, who was a truly beautiful cricketer to watch (and was married to Miss Universe), died not so long ago. Russell was a pall bearer.

I have a pal who is very close friends with Russell Crowe. They went to school together. My pal is about 5’9” and weighs maybe 60kg. His name is Hercules. I kid you not.
Every time the newspapers have a story relating to Russell Crowe and James Packer they drag out the same photograph of 3 guys in the corporate box at a South Sydney game. I recognise Crowe and Packer, of course, but my initial reaction upon seeing that photo (and I have seen it a lot) is always …. ‘Hey! There’s Herc, again!”

It seems to me that he is like a chameleon and is believable in any role he plays. I almost pit on the Water Diviner, but I’ll save it for another time.
