Sammi, I chose a Prompt with a new perspective, “Emptiness”
A young friend has early onset dimentia. He’s always had depression issues, but this is much worse. As a long distance observer, I feel frustrated and helpless. I can’t imagine how he feels–I could never fully understand the depression either. He knows the blackness well, I’m sure he fears emptiness.

The sweet smell of a great sorrow lies over the land
Plumes of smoke rise and merge into the leaden sky
A man lies and dreams of green fields and rivers
But awakes to a morning with no reason for waking
He’s haunted by the memory of a lost paradise
In his youth or a dream, he can’t be precise
He’s chained forever to a world that’s departed
It’s not enough, it’s not enough

oh my heart hurts for him and for you. Is there anything at all that pains us so much as that feeling of being helpless when we want to assist a friend?

I don’t think so, especially someone you love deeply

Very frustrating when you’re used to being able to help in some way.
