It’s all shoveled and I’m just waiting. I can hear the truck coming down the road. Everything is so still and quiet, I doubt the birds are even ready to sing.
It took a while, but soon she’ll be walking up to meet me. I could stand here forever in the cold, just knowing she’s coming. She phoned and told me she’ll be on her way. The truck is near. She never would get that muffler fixed, I can always tell it’s her. This will be a redo of the meeting we had planned after Thanksgiving. We could then leave our families behind and meet again. But there seems to always be something pulling us apart.
This time I can hear her coming so I know we can revisit the feelings we once had years ago. Years before either of us got tangled up in circumstances and other people. It’s our time now, we’ve put in our dutifulness to family. This is a time just for us.
The truck stopped on the road. A man got out and came up the path. Puzzled, I went halfway to meet him. I saw clearly it was her truck. “So you’re the guy who thinks he’s going to meet my wife? Think again!”
