As he saw the shark’s jaws closing in, he said a holy incantation in his mind, “please let this not be the end”. He was pleading, as he had for over thirty years to have prevenance from the gods above.
It was a bad decision, but he often made the wrong choices, almost as if a pervasive demon awaited another opportunity to encourage him to dash off into something dangerous. It was at this instant, his prayer seemed answered and the gate opened. He swam back into the protected space.
Another misadventure in his quest to dare the fates, always stretching himself and his imagination to the limit. He scrambled onto the safety of the dock shelf, the emblem he perceived as possible cowardice. Joe grabbed his notebook to record the event.

Trying to swish through the snow, Joe’s wish for a no-snow Halloween didn’t happen, but he still had fun. A new idea–a cross country trick or treat outing, with skis provided for kids, was planned by the hippy dippy weatherman, in charge of this year’s Halloween activities. The parents enjoyed it, since no searching for or making of costumes was needed.

The celebration was over, the sun shone on what is left from the night before. Bedraggled pennants stretching low and only a few remnants of the coronation parade remain. Every shop, storefront and cafe had outdone themselves in preparation for the royal event.
The tenement stairs were crowded with the lowly, envying the richness that briefly passed by that evening. Carriages of wealthy repute never stopped along the way to imagine a life of the disadvantaged.
