Eat Your Greens

Early morning dew on grass

Quivers as slight breeze dries

Sun’s warmth completes the task

Blades stand up in defiance

Tiny toes threaten the planted

Chubby thighs plop on the green

Small fingers grab a chunk of lawn

Time for a veggie snack.

Shopping prompts

Feeling rather heady after finally completing the online order of my grocery list, I thought, yes! I did it! I was about to enjoy a glass of iced coffee when I received a text from my “personal shopper”. Who knew it wasn’t just old Joe Schmo throwing my items into the basket?

The text read, this is Lisa and I am seeing no plums, do you want a substitute? I said, none? None. Okay, I had been wanting plums for a week, but, ok, no problem. These texts kept coming. . .no toothbrush I chose, salsa, no, bagels, etc. I told her it wasn’t a big deal, just any toothbrush would do. Some products missing, though, were specific, such as Ben and Jerry’s Cherry Garcia ice cream. But still reasonable since it was on sale.

After a while I received a phone call from customer service saying my order was cancelled because the POS wasn’t working. I assumed, you know what that means, he meant the scanners were off and it would be resubmitted when everything was up and working. Oh, no. Permanently cancelled. Alright, now you know why I don’t like to order online. Invariably there’s some type of problem.

I think I will try one more time after I’m fully credited (customer service call person advised) to place the order again. I also received a $30 credit on my account for inconvenience, which is very nice and certainly unexpected.

But when things like this happen, I’m reminded of the scene in a “Lethal Weapon” movie, with the Leo Getz character in the back of the car, saying: “They f— you in the drive-thru”, ( a family meme) which pretty much sums up my experience with ordering.

I guess I’ll have to physically take this old body into the store to shop. Ugh!

One more red smear should do it. She loves red, wonder if she’ll like this bloody shade? Oh well, mine is not to reason why, mine is just to make her die!

Jack carefully put down the poisoned marker, finishing the note to his ex, done! After reading this she’ll be an ☠ alright!

Rory’s Daily FourπŸ€

I have a friend in Colorado Springs and we used to get together for lunch, bringing everything we could find to make a big salad. Yummy, the more ingredients the better. One of my favorite salads out is the Green Goddess chicken salad at Panera Bakery.πŸ₯— The Photo above looks like a delicious saladπŸ‘ŒπŸ»

Ten things I use every day are soap, toothbrush, water, kettle, dishes, cups, silverware, blanket, wheelchair and iPad. πŸ€™πŸ»

I make a grocery list and I list my expenses so I don’t forget any bills that come out of the bank automatically on EFTs every month. There’s something satisfying about crossing off lines on a list. However, it is a necessity in my life to go with the flow in general.πŸ––πŸ»

Lately I seem not to be able to control “letting it go” because my emotions have been heightened for the last few years. It’s been increasingly difficult not to cry whether happy or sad.πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

FFFC – Shadow

***

He stood looking at his shadow, contemplating who he was, standing there. What did he see, why wasn’t he satisfied with his life? The bridge put him above the ordinary man below, but he felt a pull to join him. He edged closer to the rail, asking himself, what was so special about him, up here?

He stared at the grey man below him, knowing, thinking that is who he is, really. Nothing special, nothing colorful in his appearance, nothing remarkable or notable, but still. . .

He gripped the rail fiercely, trying not to step over. Nothing to lose if he did take that step. There was no one around to see. Maybe he should join his shadow, or maybe he was the shadow, the image no one saw but him.

Word of the Day: Bubble

“Bubble gum, bubble gum. . .”

The threesome was trying to decide who would enter first. It was only big enough for one at a time, and frankly, not one of them really wanted to be first. But after the fist rhyme was complete, it was George who won.

Everyone loves trick or treat, at least that’s what everyone thinks. George was one of the kids who walked with his mom, squeezing her hand tightly as they passed monsters on the sidewalk. George’s mom didn’t think much of it and shared all of his treats after they returned home. The consumed treats combined with the Halloween sights made for nightmares in his sleep.

This afternoon was All Hallows’ eve and Mike, Joe and George had all just turned ten, the age of putting away baby toys and showing bravado. After George was chosen, the three traveled into the nearby woods. The object to be explored was a large rotted log, big enough for a single boy to crawl in. Approaching the old log, the sun flew behind a cloud, sending a chill up their backs. Hesitating for a minute, George turned to his buddies and gave them a fake smile and a thumbs up. He then hunkered down into the moss.

Mike and Joe were very glad it was George who won. Neither would admit they too were frightened of the mysteries of the fallen tree. Broken branches took on eerie shapes in the darkened afternoon, and as George crawled in, they seemed to be moving a bit. George inched his way inside the cavernous trunk, feeling all manner of creepy, crawling beings with his hands. He stifled tears, thinking he had to keep going, no matter how scared he was.

When George’s feet disappeared into the hole, Mike and Joe saw the tree branches move around the trunk, hugging it. Forgetting trying to be brave, they grabbed each other and screamed. George’s hearing was muffled by the cavern but he thought he heard the boys outside. At the same time, he felt the space surrounding him grow smaller and breathless. He no longer saw the other open end of the log, his destination. He wanted to cry, but thought of his mom and how sad she would be if he didn’t come home.

Suddenly his legs were freed up and the space gave way so he could move easily. He clawed his way forward and then saw some glimmer of light shining through the sticks. He then knew he could get through to the other side.

Mike and Joe were still hugging each other when George appeared covered in dirt and moss and undesirable small creatures. “Hey guys! Didn’t think I’d make it, didya?” The other two brave souls decided it was getting late and surely their moms would be looking for them.

George felt like a conqueror. No nightmares on this night!

MLMM Wordle Bonus – Rhymes

I scoured a flower to answer her mither,

didn’t dawdle or dither, wanted to meet her.

She resides in a tower but I didn’t cower,

I based my hope on her dangled rope,

not realizing the scope of the rocky slope.

Some suitors may wither or slither away,

not me, I’m from an earlier day–

days of kings and princes and such.

I just wish she hadn’t tried to touch.

She leaned from the tower to my flowery bower,

the rope gave away where my body now lay.

This is the price I had to pay,

I won’t be climbing another day.

FOWC: Ahead

I always try to look ahead

Looking back is useless

What I could or should have done

I hope remains unsaid

The horizon is welcoming

A new day, maybe sunny

I take it all with a grain of salt

Hoping something will be funny.

Humor is important

I use it everyday

Like this — trying to rhyme

Oh. . .just look away!

I often post a warning

“These words are not so great”

But just like frozen peas

They just sit there on my plate.
