See how the light shines on them? Think they’re special people under those stones? I mean like angels or somethin’?

Nah, just moonlight. That cross all by itself, weird! Wonder if that’s somebody rich. Stepping close, two boys sink into ground—laughter heard. Halloween prank done.

Magic for Beginners – 31 Days October Challenge

“It’s eye of newt, not just the tail!”

Joe’s little brother started to wail

“Now it will never work, thanks for being such a jerk!”

Crying, offered up a toad, couldn’t let his beloved lizard go.

Novice cooking of a witches brew

Shouldn’t put your friends in a stew.

True Beauty

***

“Not everyone likes a show off, Marty. What exactly do you see in her anyway? She’s pretty, I’ll give you that, but what’s behind the beauty? I see nothing much at all.” Marty’s mother was not a bad person, really, and as I write this, I think you will see what I see over everything else–a sad woman afraid to lose her son, her only contact with the outside world.

“Mom, you have to get to know Julie, you’ll be impressed.”

His mother shook her head, “Men are fools. They only see what they want to see. Give her ten years and you’ll be looking for another!” This sarcastic attitude came from her own experience and sadly now, she was visiting it upon her son. Marty’s father had left her for a younger woman, and Marty was paying for that mistake.

“Mom, I know she is beautiful, but that’s just the outside. She is outgoing, has a good career, nice family, and volunteers at a shelter. And here’s the part you’re going to like best–she goes to your church.” Marty thought that would do it. His mom attended church three times a week and spent the day. It was her only social activity. It was his frequent chauffeuring of his mother that led to meeting Julie in the first place.

Marty’s mother had no choice to accept that Marty might be right after all. “All right then, ask her over for dinner.”

Sunday Photo Fiction

Golden blossoms sit

Offered in sincere sorrow

Scent is still sour

He was sorry, and this was his way of offering another apology. She didn’t believe him. She stopped believing anything that came out of his mouth since November 1, 1999. That was the date of their first anniversary.

Today was the anniversary of her daughter’s death. James was her daughter’s choice, first love, first everything. She was too young, too naive to see him for who he really was. The night of their first anniversary James killed her daughter in a drunken car accident.

She grabbed the flowers with disgust and threw them in the trash.

Prosery 5

This is the time of accepted darkness

Nightmares and ghouls, devil visions

Gardens strewn with hard dried vines

Forests’ trees with blackened bark

This season ends with All Hallows’ Eve

Coming into winter when bright white soft snow

And the promise of fresh drapes over the charcoal landscape.

Dragon’s Lament

First, thank you Sadje for taking on this prompt!🥰

My claws are worn

My wings are torn

It takes effort to spread their beauty

It’s restful here

Causing no fear

Now soldiers do my duty

The days of old

When we were bold

And breathed our dragon fire

Now puffs of smoke

All I invoke

No longer a villain’s ire

Gaze upon this relic here

No more reason for your fears

The times are gone we held so dear.

Brew and Spew Cafe

“I knew it! I knew it would look just like this, on this street and with a neon sign!”

“Okay, Fortuna, you think you’re psychic, I get it, but didn’t I see you perusing the Internet this morning?”

“Well, I always read my emails first thing.”

“In Google search? Face it, sweetie, you take your name too seriously.”
