Smiles are food for the soul.

Smiles are food for the soul.

Jack was called the jail storyteller, always keeping the worst inmates satisfied as they would savor every word.
He was not a courageous soul, and a wee bit sly as he weaved the tendrils of a murder so carefully, the subjects rarely knew which one he was speaking of.
Every now and then one of the criminals would ask if Jack was speaking about him and the entire group would begin to question and the discussion became too heated.
Yesterday, as Jack was entering his cell, a fellow prisoner decided Jack’s latest rendition was a little too close to home and strangled him with a chain.
A new inmate arrived to stay in Jack’s cell and when he heard how popular Jack was, he thought he would try the telling of stories.
It was an honest mistake, really, for he chose Jack’s story to tell first. Unfortunately he failed to disguise some important details. Jack’s old cell was empty once again.

When starry nights glow above
A garden meeting so divine
Clandestine tryst with my love
When starry nights glow above
My sweetheart delicate as a dove
While moonlight dancing on the vines
When starry nights glow above
A garden meeting so divine.

Adequate, what a word
Not really fine
It’s rather absurd
If someone says, it’s adequate
What do they really mean?
Is it okay, mediocre or
Something in between?
I think this word should be dismissed
It’s rather rude I say
Not quite nice but said aloud
Might ruin someone’s day.

My seventieth birthday—an epoch event. Since my mother passed away at the age of seventy, I felt If I passed seventy I’d be home free. I am.

Waiting at the garden gate
The elder watching as his mate
Quickened the pace of her gait
As two lovers anticipate.
The least of her worries as he was prepared
With the transportation he wanted to share
He had leased a carriage beyond compare
To surprise her, a palanquin chair.

I have just the thing, Eggo says hi as he’s waiting for his tiny roach lunch.

We had lunch at Panera with my daughter and three of her kids, for the 17 and 22 year olds’ birthdays. As usual there was laughing, singing, dancing, yes dancing in the parking lot and then a quick trip to Target for two items.
I was in the wheelchair and the 17 year old thought it was funny as I was looking at headbands. His 22 year old accomplice suggested I try one on and she’d take a pic to show me. As I was attempting to adjust it, gales of laughter from the boy. Then a joke and I tried to chase him in the chair, saying, I’m going to kick you in the shins. Of course I was kidding, I’m not really capable of that, but a young mother grabbed her toddler and turned into another aisle.
I don’t blame her, but that even caused us to get more silly and laughter ensued. Some people have no sense of humor🙄😱😳😀. It’s no fun just acting normal, being polite, and life is short. Enjoy while you can.
By the way, as the 22 and 13 year old were dancing in the parking lot as all was being loaded into the car, Thor walked by laughing. Everyone back in the car and my daughter said, did you see that was Thor? Apparently he is the oral surgeon who removed the 22 year old’s wisdom teeth. He is a riot and does resemble Chris Hemsworth.
So live it up, people and never let a day go by without laughing!❤️

Everyone breathed easier at the first signs of spring. Especially old Joe Brown. Being ninety-two and pretty much a hermit, it was his saving grace. Joe was basically holed up in his tiny cottage for the length of winter and when birds started to sing and the sun lasted more than a few hours, he felt rejuvenated.
It was always this way, ever since his Bessie passed over. At least he thought she passed over, but on occasion, he would hear her fixing breakfast in the wee hours of the morning. Of course he always rose out of bed then as quick as his limbs were capable, checking to see if she was really there. A soft breeze would caress his cheek, but he never saw her. Even with only the soft touch he was joyful and remained so for the day.
Gathering his wooly sweater and twisted oak cane, Joe walked out to the porch. Yes, he could smell it in the air. Spring was coming! He plodded over to the remnants of Bessie’s garden to see a few crocuses starting up. Thank you Bessie, he thought to himself, I can always count on you.
