Idioms

I was watching a series and someone said “I’ve got your six”. I’ve heard it a hundred times probably, know what it means, but not where it originated. So being the curious person I am, looked it up and found some I didn’t know the “start” of them. Here are some:

Fifty Shades of Grave

They call him a monster, an insatiable knave

He circles cemeteries for the bodies he craves

His vision is often misconstrued

Some think him an angel to be pursued

His vapor is sickenly sweet

He wraps himself around a victim’s feet

And then so smoothly they think they are saved

Suddenly takes them to join in his grave

By the time he is done with his vicious eating

The mourners are also his meal, completed

If you’re near a tombstone on All Hallows’ eve

Be cautious and don’t believe what you see

This monster disguised is waiting for you

To add flavor and spice to his ghoulish stew.

Fandango’s Friday Flashback 10-30-17

“We were just walking along, you know, me and Joe, when we saw these weird rocks. The stones were strange lookin’, but there’s more to the story.

Now, we were in the woods, right? You know what I mean, OUT there, like no one is around but us, right? We stepped up closer to these weirdo rocks and saw–you’re not gonna believe me, but, hey, it’s the truth!

Right in front of the two rocks were two sets of shoes, one, a man’s dress shoes, the other, a lady’s high heels! Don’t believe me? If I’m lyin’, I’m dyin’!”

The modern version of tea for two

A special meeting of the few

Who celebrate the “me and you”

The lucky ones who fell in love

With each other and thereof

Spending time holding hands

Insuring that their gold bands

Never rust or grow tired

But keep a love to be admired.

Itโ€™s a bird, itโ€™s a plane, itโ€™s a bat!

I said to him, did you see that?

I think it looks like a bat!

I grabbed my hat to cover my wig

And ran around like dancing a jig

Screaming, get it, please!

Then sat cowering on my knees.

My ever faithful husband true

Yelled back, what’s the matter with you?

I’ll get the broom, stop your chatter

This is no frightful matter

He opened the door and yelled shoo!

I stood back up and sighed a whew

The bat flew out, he proudly said,

I took off my nightcap, went back to bed.

Halloween 2020

Some say it’s magic, a special veil lifted between midnight, October 30th till midnight, October 31–a holiday of sorts with childhood memories of special treats given by friendly neighbors.

In some cultures this week is a time when ancestors rise from their crypts to utilize the camouflage of costumes in the street to visit friends and relatives imparting personal messages which may or may not be well received.

In either case, it would be wise to shutter the windows, batten the hatches, lock the doors, especially to attics and basements, light a peaceful candle or two and keep the fire logs burning. This is the year of odd happenings and you never know what horror is coming next.
