The Sunday Whirl

I heard your name rise on the wind, a brief sin remembered years ago when the stories came out about us. I have to grin, thinking of the innocent conduct taken as betrayal. I close my eyes, even as many miles that separate us bring back thoughts of you, and the memory is shimmering sweet cream on my morning coffee.

Sad to See

Scattered trash

Makes me all bristly

Where is the discipline when

Picnicking in a field?

My oh my…it certainly is deja-vu when reading the news. Covid cases are up, hospitals full, medical personnel are running ragged and very discouraged. A few “nonbelievers” still fight the system, proven facts and medical advice, wanting their personal freedom over their children’s lives, wanting to go everywhere not wearing a mask even for their own protection. Really, is it too much to ask?

Not according to people languishing in hospital beds now begging for a vaccine dose, some even going public with pleas to the unvaccinated maskless idiots. Yes that is harsh, but maybe we need harsh now, with thousands of people in the US hospitalized, more dying every day, that these misdeeds of the public have caused to drift down to our children. Covid does not care about age or gender.

It’s time to oust these leaders who threaten teachers and parents who choose to mask up, and take them off their Hitler-like podiums and put sensible minds in their place.

Attraction

Stumbling over a curb, I stood up, adjusted my glasses and looked straight ahead into the most beautiful sight in my twenty-two years. I nearly bumped straight into him, as he bent to help me up. What a gentleman, I immediately thought and as my imagination took over, I pictured my rescuer as a knight, but where was the white horse? I smiled at this thought as I often do, leaving others to wonder what I’m thinking. I’m not proud of it, it just happens.

He smiled back and it was then I realized he was still holding my hand and a tiny feeling ran through my arm, straight to my heart. Early, you think, unexpected, agreed, but pleasant all the same. He was observing my dress, and my bloodied knee, offering a handkerchief to dab it. What man even carries a handkerchief these days you ask, but not a surprise to me as he was a knight–of sorts, I believed.

Only then did I dare take in his appearance, as he knelt down to attend my knee. He had dark brown wavy hair, darkened skin tone and was dressed casually. He turned up his face to me and then I saw those blue eyes. I think I could have fainted at that point, the concern in those bright blues was overwhelming. What is it about eyes? They may be the window of our souls, but to me his were a magnet, especially this pair, looking up and straight into my own soul.

This was our first encounter, and now, many years later, I still feel his magnetism, still feel the thrill at his touch, and thank the gods for my clumsiness on that day.

MLMM First Line Friday

Always the heat of the day kept us inside, sitting in front of a fan drinking iced tea, if the electrics were working. If not, we’d draw a cool bath in the tub and soak till it also turned too warm. At night we partied, barbecued our meals, drank cold beer freely and listened to Buddy Guy or some other blues artist. Dancing was allowed in the cool air, when bodies could cling and sway in the night and enjoy a cooler touch.

It was a sedentary life during the day, but at night we were free to gather, follow a lighted path and glow together.

Fandango’s Flashback Friday

Share Your World 8-27-18

Hi De Ho fellow citizens of the blogging world! How’s old WP treating you? I hope it’s just fine. Monday and it is getting cooler each week, thank you, thank you. I believe I have an outing on Thursday but plans may change, so you never know. I just go with the flow. And it flows rather quickly. Thanks again to Ceenphotography.comwho is challenging us with another set of getting to know you questions and here are my answers:

1. Let me start by saying I love nuts of any kind and I’m not just talking about the weird humans kind. I find that even though I grew up eating walnuts, I’m now allergic to them, which is a pita because I feel they are a necessary ingredient in my banana bread, and other recipes.

2. I have two closet doors facing my bed. One is always closed, hoarding what used to be necessary items. The other door is partially open because of hooks holding a cloth shoe rack with pockets that hold most everything besides two pairs of shoes, such as gloves, scarves, etc.

3. I am usually on time. Being picked up by other people or a bus, I don’t have a choice. A couple of weeks ago I was being driven to Denver by my grandson, who is always early. We had to leave by five AM so I set my alarm for four. At five he knocks on my door and I’m fast asleep, having set my alarm for PM instead of AM. Luckily I could get ready in less than thirty minutes and we ended up early to our Denver appointment.

As ever it will be, I am so grateful to have a loving family. And my oldest sister (88) just got an email account. She’s a wonder, still as funny as ever. You can’t keep a good woman down.❤️

Dionne Warwick and Burt Bacharach were a great combination for memorable songs. “Marie Dionne Warrick, known as Dionne Warwick, is an American singer, actress, television host, and former Goodwill Ambassador for the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization. Warwick ranks among the 40 biggest hit makers between 1955 and 1999, based on her chart history on Billboard’s Hot 100 pop singles chart.”
