1. Get up late
2. Fix something hot and creamy to drink
3. Make a “comfy” dish for dinner
4. Enjoy the sounds of rain on windows- better a hard rain than the tap of infrequent drops which is annoying😵💫
5. Rain is rare here and welcomed to refresh the air and ground, so being out in it is not an annoyance.

Macintosh, you are my love
Truly the gift I’m thinking of
Childhood saw us in the orchard
Living without, I feel tortured
Autumn air flows with their scent
My adoration honestly meant
The look, the smell, the tart sweet taste
I try not to savor it in haste
When biting into this treat
Old memories come complete
Alas they are not seen here
Only the East holds them dear.

Joe and June were living the high life. A new home in the hills, Olympic sized pool always the perfect temperature, garden surrounds, a cook, cleaner, and gardener, all at their beck and call. Both worked from home as authors, and had individual offices with private secretaries. All seemed ideal and dreamlike. They barely read the news or stayed in touch with reality since they were basically fine in their seclusion.
The police were called by the gardener after he failed to stop an angry group of people who had decided to protest one author’s published book, “How to Live on Just $5.00 a Day”.

Started out believing glory was in the participation. All my high school buddies were joining up. Flags were planted on lawns, yellow ribbons tied on trees—it was a time to stand up and be the best you could be.
Death surrounds me standing in a mire of faces now distorted by pain, missing limbs, flag emblems blackened on blood spattered uniforms, once crisp and clean, worn with pride. Confusion abounds.
Tomorrow it will begin again. All remnants of patriotic ideals are now shattered.

Visitors
Do not come today
It’s the day
Skeletons—
Former patients come to play
Come back tomorrow.

Autumn is a perfect time to linger, pushing the crispy colored leaves ahead of your feet, listening to their friendly crunch. They don’t mind at all. Their expectation of life brief, suspended from compliant trees, as precarious as a fading rainbow in the sun.

Professor James started his usual boring lecture on the perpetuation of poverty, focusing attention on the ability to confine extreme pools of population into poorly maintained areas. “Recent studies accrue information on these people through a boots on the ground approach, but also through media.”
My mood turned from his droning voice to my next meal in the university cafeteria which had an abundant varied menu of my choosing. After heaping my tray, I took my lunch out to an area under the trees where the latest Delta Phi E fox was sitting with her friends. “Hello ladies” and my hunt was on.

Gee Georgie, I think something wicked this way comes!
Alright, Peabody, if you must talk, the least you could do is be original!
Seriously, just look! No color, just gray and white! Did we just go into the—hey. . .you’re black and white too!
I am being serious, it’s your over intelligent imagination playing tricks on you. There’s nothing kafkaesque out there. Let’s get a snack.
Georgie was calm until he opened the box of Fruit Loops.
Peabody just nodded.
