She was superstitious to a fault
Always throwing her spilled salt
“Wards off penance” is what she thought
As previous generations had taught
“It will keep me safe” she crowed
Believe me, to her it was owed
For the many evil ways she sowed.

The doctor was hardly sympathetic

I doubt she had many ethics

I sat awaiting her decision

She asked what was my vision

Would I come out with defeated mind

My femininity declined?

I replied that I would not

It hadn’t entered my thoughts

I was just glad to get rid of the disease

It was the cancer that made me feel unease

Even now so many years later

I would hardly rate her

As the best OBGYN oncologist

Certainly no psychologist

My concern was my physical being

Couldn’t envision forward thinking

I survived which was my goal

No matter what she had told.
