The song was inspired by various events in Cooke’s life, most prominently when he and his entourage were turned away from a whites-only motel in Louisiana. Cooke felt compelled to write a song that spoke to his struggle and of those around him, and that pertained to the Civil Rights Movement and African Americans.

Cinco de Mayo marks the anniversary of the 1862 victory by Mexican troops over invading French forces at the Battle of Puebla, originated in Mexico, the day is more popular in the US! The triumph over the better equipped and more numerous French troops was an enormous emotional boost for the Mexican soldiers led by Gen. May 4 “We should always support good writing. Even though it appears there are too many lazy remakes and shitty TV shows and movies, there’s always good writing out there. For every ten “Two Broke Girls,” there’s at least one “Community,” or “The IT Crowd,” or “The Good Place.” You just gotta search for it.”http://claytoonz.com/2023/05/04/scabbing-with-tucker
