dVerse Poets – Couplets

We were born six years apart

Became friends right at the start

***

This older wiser friend of mine

Always thought of me as “thine”

***

Years pass by with disconnect

Back together with latest tech

***

Both now older and wiser still

Hold to each other, a lifetime skill.

Classic Song Beginnings

“Undecided” is a popular song written by Sid Robin and Charlie Shavers, published in 1938.The first recording was made by John Kirby and The Onyx Club Boys on October 28, 1938, and released by Decca Records as catalog number 2216, with the B side, “From A Flat to C”. Ella Fitzgerald recorded this many times but I like the faster version with the Ames Brothers or this one.

flowering pinks settled in here

their scent is coming through so clear

dahlia, rose, lilac too, are dear

nothing planted that is garish

neighborhood envy fair-ish

soothed by the sharing of flowers

And: NPR: The PGA tour is merging with its Saudi-backed rival,LIV Golf and creating a new entity. The PGA will gain majority board seats and Yasir al-Rumayyan, the governor of the Saudi Sovereign Wealth Fund, will become chairman. The deal was a surprise to everyone, including star golf players, according to The New Yorker’s Zach Helfand. When asked if the deal is a way for the Saudis to cover up its poor human rights record, Helfand said this aspect “has been a little bit overblown,” and people tell him a golf league can’t wash away human rights abuses. Instead, the league will serve Saudi business and economic needs.”

Fandango’s Story Starter

This week’s Story Starter teaser is: Dan’s new next door neighbors were so loud and noisy that he could neither work nor sleep, so he decided that he needed to take action.

At exactly midnight, Dan began pounding on the neighbor’s door. He was so angry and frustrated by the blatant action of this uncaring neighbor, he was almost frothing at the mouth. It took a while but finally a pajama clad man looking like he just woke up opened the door. Can I help you he offered and Dan just stared at him incredulous that this man had obviously been sleeping. Dan replied, of course you can! Start by stopping that awful noise coming from your house every night! My family hasn’t been able to sleep since you came here! The man turned and shut the door in Dan’s face. Dan pounded again, this time no answer. Dan was puzzled so decided to break down and call the police. When they finally came, all was quiet next door. When they left it started again. Dan figured he had two choices. Get his father’s shotgun out of storage and riddle the neighbor’s home with bullets, or move. They called a moving company the next morning.
