dVerse Poets

Choose three things that make you happy. Or, if there’s somebody else around, ask them for three things that make them happy, and write them a poem as a gift – giving to others makes us happy! Write a poem, weaving in those three things. You can tell us what they are, or leave us to guess, that’s up to you.

It’s an easy start

Grandkids stir my heart

No need to make up the rest

Trying to look and feel my best

Eating and drinking to be healthy

Pay bills on time because I’m not wealthy

Today I realize how my luck has kicked in

Appreciating how I seem born to win.

dVerse Poets Haibun

  • Write a haibun that alludes to liberation.
  • Post it on your personal site/blog.
  • Include a link back to dVerse in your post.

As a white person I have experienced no prejudice in my privileged lifetime. Living in Texas I found out how much discrimination indirectly permeated my life. I was a transported northerner and spoke with an accent they pretended not to understand and of course being a woman, put me in a corner in the sixties and seventies. There is liberation for white straight men—for anyone else in these areas, freedom is quantified in mostly inappropriate ways. These ways can be subtle or unlawful.

Haibun Monday 6-19-23: Liberation

SYW 6-19-23

Here are this week’s questions:

1. If you could reinvent yourself, how would you like to be? Taller, smarter, thinner and able to walk
2. Would you like to be a pet in your household? No
3. How many house moves have you had as an adult? Too many
4. What was your favourite home? Tossup between a beautiful new build in Houston and a very old home in Colorado

Gratitude: As always thankful for my loving family and three great dads to celebrate.

Good Morning, not

“Do we have to go through this ordeal every morning? In order for you to thrive you must eat breakfast so your mind won’t just be adrift when you’re trying to learn! Now stop acting like a petulant spoilt brat and eat your eggs and toast!”

“Pet what? You won’t let me have any pets!”

Your Daily Word Prompt – #Ordeal- #YDWordPrompt June 18, 2023

Six Sentence Story

“Did you see the replay on that hit? Wow! I know you think those guys in those flashy polyester uniforms are paid way too much, but money talks, and they are talented!” Joe started laughing at that remark because the next guy up to bat was the pitcher. “Pitchers rule the game, Mike, and are the highest paid position. Next is the designated hitter who we just made that hit”.

⚾️⚾️⚾️ “The highest-paid players in Major League Baseball (MLB) from the 2023 Major League Baseball season are New York Mets’ starting pitchers Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander with an annual salary of $43.33 million.”

The Sunday Whirl

Hope springs open seeing a spinning sight, a kite with bright blue and green feathers drifting down to the ground. The kite’s desired shape is in the guise of a peacock, and beyond the colors it is obvious the poor design falters and drives suddenly to the ground. The group that assembled the bird all chime in to declare it looked like a real peacock in actual flight.
