W3- Sun

Lesley’s prompt guideline
Compose a free verse poem of any length (but consider that I am a slow reader; save the tomes for next time);
Thematic: The theme for this poem should be ~ “the SUN”

Lacking warmth we search for you

Through windy clouds peeking through

A glimpse of course always there

But we need more if you dare

Autumn makes you shy in morning

Foggy grays are now warning

Heavy rain and hail for the day

Stripping leaves in nature‘s way

With future snow and icy tours

We need more of your warm hours.

W3 Prompt #76: Wea’ve Written Weekly

One Liner Wednesday

“Never think that war, no matter how necessary, nor how justified, is not a crime.”
— Ernest Hemingway, 1946
Hemingway was 18 years old when he volunteered to be an ambulance driver for WWI. He suffered physically and mentally from the horrors of war. As a novelist, he used his writing to show the criminality of the war.

As you’ve probably guessed, we’re going to write about soup. You can write about soup you love (or hate), preparing or serving soup, or anything else about soup. Or if you don’t want to write about real soup, use it as a metaphor.
***
A good soup has many ingredients
Appeal heightened by different flavors and colors
Chunky or slivered bits
Slices of the exotic
Taste always enhanced by variety
Enjoyed all year but
Savored against winter chills
Soup can unite the palate and senses.

Simply Six Minutes

Sheila looked into the cage of her next victim. The hypodermic held so it could be easily observed by the caged person. Dressed as a nurse had little effect but her artificial right hand was obviously secured by chain mail around the wrist. She didn’t mind because it had no nerves to feel what pain it would inflict. The caged ones were not really people, only a few vagrants, useless to the outside world but easy to use here, inside. The liquid in the injection needle would be changed every few days until the desired effect was achieved. Her assistant opened the lock and she used her metal hand to grab the victim’s neck. Screams were heard by the others as the vial emptied into him.

Fandango’s Story Starter+

This week’s Story Starter teaser is:

When she looked at her cellphone, she was shocked to see she had 33 voicemail messages. The entire romance was such an abrupt chain of events and then deciding to elope? The idea was a complete mockery of her culture. The cell phone never stopped ringing in her father’s rampant attempt to reach her. It had been twelve hours since she last contacted him. Now she was afraid to. She quickly packed her bags and joined her lover in a cab to the airport.

MLMM Wordle 343

Members of the Formica generation, dissimilar in most other elemental ways, decided it would be fun to reseed interest in the countertops made in the early twentieth century. Their communication resulted in excitement among the older generation that had fond memories of the countertop marvel. The abstract patterns and bright colors, were now a virtual possibility on the internet, that likelihood not available in their prime housekeeping days. It was decided there would be three winners of the most voted for designs of years gone by. The winners could choose a new countertop installed in either of the following colors: crimson, blueberry, or forest green.

Wordle #343

SYW 10-9-23

Here are this week’s questions:
1. Do you prefer a duvet, quilt or sheets and blankets on your bed? I have a lightweight quilt and a heavier one over a bottom sheet.

2. Do you sleep with one or two pillows?I finally found one I like! It’s a “kid’s pillow”
from Target

3. Do you prefer a single, double, or kingsize bed? I had a huge king bed for years but a single box type bed now, so much easier to make.

4. In the winter, do you have a hot water bottle or an electric blanket?Neither, I like it cold.

5. Fun question: have you ever slept in a hammock? 😀No.

Gratitude: I just had a lovely time with my 17 year old granddaughter and my daughter. It’s always fun and usually lots of laughter. At Target last week we were laughing so much it was embarrassing because I chose to use a scooter the store provided. It kept stopping and then jerking forward. Today getting my Covid shot I just used my wheelchair 😂

I stay in the garden under the star filled night’s canopy. Blushing now, even alone, I’m still feeling your furtive touch. It was brief, but reverberated through my body, my nerves first shy, then growing warmer, and yielding. As brief as it was, the look on your face revealed more desire than perhaps you should have shown. I too felt it, the pull between us, as I accepted your kiss on my neck. Sitting here now, still too fevered to go inside to my bed, the cool breeze helped. The moon had observed our reckless behavior and will keep our secrets. When I see you tomorrow surrounded by others, remember to keep your distance, for “you cannot pluck moonlight to bring in your pocket!”

Prosery: The Voice of Helen Hoyt

Six Sentence Story

I never knew what a “text” was until my grandkids told me. I think that was in the Middle Ages, as I barely had a cell phone that I barely knew how to use. To be honest they are a blessing and a curse as a lot of tech these days seems to be. Now I communicate almost entirely by text with them or my kids because it’s their way—actual phone calls might cause alarm😂. If I receive a text from the family and don’t immediately respond they get worried. Three or more text dings in a row and I know immediately who it is, and it starts with: Mom?
