Fandango’s Flashback Friday

Courting Disaster

1-12-20 by rugby843

I looked it up, texted, and finally courted, so it is my fault. I refuse to accept I cannot do certain things anymore, partly because of my health, part my age and part where I live.

Still reading? Gold stars all around!⭐️

I was craving chocolate. Old women like me who live alone crave a lot of things I won’t go into here–and I heard that big sigh of relief.🙄

I always have more skim milk than I need, because I hate milk and can’t buy only a quart. So I thought, hey! (That was my first mistake). I could make chocolate pudding! I had a little baking cocoa from last year’s cake I made for my daughters birthday, and the rest of the ingredients most of us have in case we ever want to bake anything. I googled a recipe for using cocoa instead of using my regular cookbook which called for squares of chocolate.

Second mistake, texting. . .the potential recipe to myself. I read the ingredients , plopped them all in the pan and then had to bring to a boil, slowly. Being the impatient person I am, while I did the constant stirring, I thought I’d check the recipe once again.

I should have texted instead of full on courting, but I’ve been cooking for over fifty years, so thought. . .well it doesn’t matter what I thought, I lost it. The recipe. There are hundreds of google recipes for easy chocolate pudding, but not so easy to access a certain one with my only free hand. I saw a similar one but the milk was half the amount. Also, annoying ads and signups kept covering the recipes. I kept trying and finally it was time to add the vanilla. I did, removed from the heat and hoped it would turn out okay.

Of course if you’re still reading, you’re probably wondering about the disaster part. I had two bowls sitting on the counter to receive my beautifully crafted pudding. Unfortunately my now free left hand, not so reliable, slipped with the whisk and it fell. Luckily it fell into the scooter basket, but sprayed the cupboards, dishwasher and me on the short one foot trip. Did you know whisks can bounce? Of course–when they land on the whisky wire end.

All is cleaned up now, two bowls of pudding cooling in the fridge, but I think it will be a while before I try this again. I always think I CAN and of course I want and need to believe it. Next time I want a chocolate fix, I’ll buy some Hershey pudding cups.

Mama Mia that’s a lotta pineapple!

I always liked that ad…I received my grocery order and they substituted a huge package of fresh cut pineapple for the watermelon I ordered. Okay, I have some chicken, rice, carrots and onion and can make a recipe with that BUT what to do with the rest? My stomach can only take so much pineapple 😳

So here I am cooking:

Just kidding, it only feels like that whenever I’m trying to cook!😂 Have a good weekend!

She saw a natural arch over the entrance to an enchanted area. Her personal wishes lie within. It only takes a bit of imagination, faith and hope for it all to be realized. Often only seen in books or paintings, such an ethereal space is only a dream away. She sank into the soft bedcovers and closed her eyes.

After a sleepless night this won’t be “tight”

First it was awkward and brief

Just one more my dear, please

Slightly slumped, casual presence

I may need a supplement of the calming kind

Time travel to the past or a future that may not last

Some changes you have no choice

Think fortunate thoughts

Peaceful beasts

It’s in my nature

Hard as stone, never relenting.

JJJ 11 – Olive

Your prompt for JusJoJan January 11th, 2024 is “olive.” Use it as a noun or an adjective, use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

Olives are something I love! Not everyone in my family agree but green olives my favorite and then the darker colorful Kalamata varieties. They are full of flavor in a tiny bite.

Fandango’s Story Starter

This week’s Story Starter teaser is:

This whole crazy chain of events started when I accidentally picked up the wrong suitcase at the airport. As I approached the baggage exit, I was stopped because I set off some type of alarm. At first I ignored it because I wasn’t doing anything wrong and all of a sudden I was tackled by a security guard and slammed to the floor. I was shocked, hurt of course, and embarrassed. I was then pulled up, handcuffed and taken to a back room. The whole experience was a nightmare and I sat there while another guard opened my suitcase and started rifling through it. I looked incredulously because none of those things were mine! Then I guess they found what they were looking for and just stared at me like I was a criminal. Then the phone rang and someone must have realized it was not my suitcase after all. The person who had my suitcase was caught when the labels on it didn’t match his ticket and I thanked the gods that they were still “inconveniencing” people with that secure exit policy, even though I was a victim of it. It turns out that what set off the alarm was an illegal item that was not allowed to cross borders. Luckily it was not actually dangerous and I was shortly given my own suitcase and my freedom.

3TC – Storage

Your three words today are:
HANDY USEFUL OBSOLETE

Moving around the states occupying apartments, homes and houses, is usually accompanied by having a storage unit which would be handy if you lived close to it. I have two storage units, one here near me and one in CO. It was useful when we moved there from TX but now it’s obsolete. I can imagine the items there, though some sentimental, would be of little use to me now. For the last ten years I have settled in to a small apartment and happy with what I have and need nothing. Sometimes I wistfully think of all the things stored in CO and want to see them again, but probably won’t.
