SYW 6-10-24

Here are this week’s questions:

1.  What is/has been your favourite job/occupation? My favorite job was my first (real) job I started the day I turned eighteen. During my time there I met challenges and many great people. Learning the federal government way of doing everything was not the way I was trained, but I learned a lot about cold regions, photogrammetry, how to work for more than one scientist at a time, and it’s funny now to think that the one of the places I used to dream about seeing is where I’m living now! 🦬

2.  Is there a job you would never consider doing? Probably quite a few, but I was happy in all the different jobs I had over the years in places we lived. I still miss working outside the home.👩🏼‍💼

3.  Did your family own a business and expect you to join the ranks when you got older? We had a dairy farm until I was fifteen.👩🏻‍🌾

4.  Did/do you have a career requiring qualifications or did you learn on the job and work your way up? I’ve had and liked both.🤓

Gratitude: I am always grateful for my family, always. This last week they helped me shop for flowers and set them up on my patio.🌸

Terza Rima – Third Rhyme

Acquainted with the Night

BY ROBERT FROST

I have been one acquainted with the night.

I have walked out in rain—and back in rain.

I have outwalked the furthest city light.

I have looked down the saddest city lane.

I have passed by the watchman on his beat

And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.

I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet

When far away an interrupted cry

Came over houses from another street,

One luminary clock against the sky

But not to call me back or say good-bye;

And further still at an unearthly height,

Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.

I have been one acquainted with the night.

I found this interesting poetry form and a lovely example by Robert Frost.

10-11 syllables in 3 line tercets

ABA, BCB, CDC,

Each line of the tercet sets the rhyme for the next. The last word of second line in one tercet provides the rhyme for the first and third lines in the next tercet.

I have yet to try😳😂

Joe’s strategy was to sit in a recliner, turn on the RED channel, with shows of harshly apprehended thieves, portrayals of some enemy being killed in a far away war—all the angry violent fodder seemingly taking his mind off himself. It was Joe’s way of dealing with the immutable dragon of pain. Every minute of every day Joe had to face the fact that pain was his “best friend” in life.

The way that Joe dealt with it was the extreme opposite of his wife’s attitude. She had built a beautiful water garden, thinking that this was a solution and Joe might use it as an area for meditation. The garden consisted of beautiful rocks, and small trees. Joe could even see a nest of birds, and the air was soft, humid and warm. Joe never did take the hint. After a few minutes of trying to relax in the garden as she asked, he would return to the den, to watch the violence on TV again.

I agree with Fandango, “what the hell is going on?” That is my question to all the Trumpers wandering around out there, dressed in fatigues as if they ever legitimately wore a uniform, brandishing all sorts of weapons, screaming epithets to ordinary law abiding citizens? Was there suddenly an invasion turning ordinary people into dangerous deadly robots bowing down to Trump? What the hell is going on?

Confrolly: the long con

***

Just so there’s no confusion

In making a confidential confession

Configuring the confrontations

Resulting in my confirmed conflagration

Confederation confabulators conform

Conflicting confiscations of confided conferences

Confoundingly confused and confuted

And confected my confrontation of guilt.

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt

“The direction of the party is perfectly clear, gentlemen, (someone whispers in his ear) uh, I mean gentlemen, and ladies”, as he leans forward squinting through the camera lights to peer into the crowd. “We have your best interests at heart, and will push through this legislation, I am sure. Every man will be represented, with no discrimination for your black, brown or red peoples”.
The former court justice was digging himself in deeper with every word and his wife only sat there quietly beside the podium, smiling.

Weekend Writing Prompt #367 – Party

Walking Tree

The strange tree, which has been nicknamed the “walking tree” because it looks like it’s striding across a field, is a northern rātā (Metrosideros robusta) — one of New Zealand’s tallest flowering tree species that can live for up to 1,000 years. It’s roots and long, arm-like branches make the tree look like an Ent — a fictional race of tree-like creatures that guard the forests of Middle-earth.

The tree stands alone in the middle of a large paddock next to a cemetery near Karamea on the west coast of South Island. It is around 105 feet (32 meters) tall — around the same height as a seven-story building, according to The New Zealand Tree Register.
