Just as every day, Joe starts the morning admiring his works of art. The one time love from years gone by…he often wonders where she is now. When she left, he looked over all the sketches he had drawn and his paintings of her. These few were his favorites. Her beauty evident, but the fun they had that summer was depicted on this wall. A summer romance after college graduation was brief but remembered here.

Needing a Break

“Get outside, now!” That was the harried mom’s yell. She was trying to feed three month old twins and sitting between them, first a spoon in the boys mouth and then a spoon of mashed potato for the baby girl. Not many mothers can handle two small babies, a five year old and a seven year old, but she is managing. Summer heat and no break in school time, she manages. After the first two times she says “it’s time to go outside” doesn’t get their attention from their tablet games, she occasionally raises her voice.

As the auctioneer’s gavel came down, all eyes turned to her. It was only natural and not meant as a condemnation…well all except the irate woman in the front row. That woman was the mother of the deceased and quite upset with her daughter-in-law who chose to sell every single piece of her husband’s belongings. There was no consultation with her, the mother-in-law scorned. By my estimation, well deserved!

Living Poetry Prompt

Everyone was having a good time, but the air was boiling hot

Grandma Perkins cheered on her boy, and stood up until she was not

All the families yelled, “Stop the game!”

And then the on-field ambulance came.

Miss Perkins to the hospital rode

A heart attack is what they were told.

Turned out it was just a heatstroke

The doctor was a helpful old bloke.

The game of the season was held in a while

And Miss Perkins, recovered, and gave all a smile.
